He liked it.
He's big on Marvel, so it was something quite different for him, but he engaged with the subject matter and enjoyed the story, and a little of the spectacle.
WOW!
Really quite lovely.
The fringing has gone from all of the worst areas which I'd noticed previously. Detail to burn (and I only saw a 2K projection).
I know the phrase 'looks like it was shot yesterday' is bandied around, and usually it's an overstatement. It would be too much to say...
What we’ve been waiting for (part 1). Details on the restoration process:

What we’ve been waiting for (part 2). In three and a half hours I get to sample this in the...
Some very rude people around (although we all knew that already).
Anyway, back to the film. I'm sorry that this is such late notice, but it looks like my colonial friends have beaten us Limeys to the punch.
You can get to see this first...but you'll have to be quick, as it's on tonight, or...
That's my understanding. Indeedd it's what happened with TRS and Blimp.
But don't you have to scan all 3 strips separately?
Any idea what's been done this time?
Many thanks.
Sorry that I'm having to repeat this, but I've just heard that this new restoration is a 4K scan of the version used for the DVD, and not a full, proper restoration re-aligning the 3-strip elements.
I desperately hope that this news is wrong, but it's from a reliable source.
I hope what I've just heard is wrong.
Someone at the PnP Appreciation Society (who is in regular touch with Thelma Scoonmaker, and has always been kept abreast of the previous restoration of TRS and Blimp) says it is NOT a new restoration, but a new scan "...of the same tired old negatives (or...
Gentlemen, this looks like the real deal.
The previous restoration by Grover Crisp was completely in the analogue domain, with the biggest problem being the misalignment of the 3-strip.
I can only presume that, if Sony have given it a 4k scan, they must surely have scanned the original 3 strip...
I'm completely at a loss, too.
Should I believe a bean-counter, or the world's foremost large format film preservation expert.
Look, I'll have to have a think about that one, and then I'll get back to you.

That's great news, in anyone's book.
When I look at what they've done so far, I just think 'boxed sets and collections'.
I think Warner have replaced all of my old UK Warner-Hitchcock DVDs with Blu-ray Disc, apart from Stage Fright, so I hope that's up soon.
They appear to be working their...
