bluray 5.1 out into an older preamp with 5.1 input

what happens if you disable the sub in the BD player. Does that mean the 0.1 LFE signal gets routed to the other 5 channels? If so I plan on using an outboard ICBM mass management tool and then feed the signal to my AVP2. Do you folks think that its a viable solution?

bluray 5.1 out into an older preamp with 5.1 input

Hi everyone. I have been out of the HT loop for a few years now but want to get back in with all the new HD formats. My question is what is a good bluray player with 5.1 output that I can feed into my AVP2+6 so I can enjoy lossless audio from TruDD and DTS-HD? Also what about bass management? Do...

    Oy! Such a Bargain!

Its not exactly the same scenario Chu. First, the equalization that a SET does is a function of frequency, impedance and power output. So its a continuously varying equalization over the whole power and freq spectrum, something that is practically impossible to achieve with an equalizer. One...

    Oy! Such a Bargain!

Exactly, if one can afford it then so be it. Its his/her money and if its burning a hole in his pocket then why not. I have seen people blow 10-20K in a couple hours at the Foxwoods so to each its own. Why do we have to lose sleep over something someone likes to do with their $$$?

    Oy! Such a Bargain!

Depends on how you define that word. For someone it might mean a ruler flat FR with 2KW/ch at 2 cents/watt. For someone else it might mean something worth talking about at cocktail dinner parties. I think Hyundai is high performance. For the next person a Rolls Royce might mean high performance...

    Oy! Such a Bargain!

Yes and they will continue saying that. But looking at all the new companies cropping up every year making affordable tube gear (more affordable than solid state gear in some instances) it doesn't seem likely so.

Perhaps in the middle of Kansas. Over here in CA you would get a beat up shack for 350K without electricity let alone a theater.:D

I didn't know you rolled your tube for fun. I just stick them in and out of the socket for best results:D

    Panasonic receivers

 All jokes aside, I think Panasonic makes good receivers. My first receiver was a Technics (division of Panasonic) that is still serving duty in my lab running 24/7 at fairly loud volumes and has been going strong for the past 7 years without a hiccup.

Going to separate amps from receiver.

I would agree with Wayne at this point. Although I must give him the benefit of doubt (because its way past his bed time:)) in claiming that 6db gain equals doubling of power when it is 3db that equates to doubling of power. At 98db efficiency (of your speakers) you are essentially driving an...

    Dilemma, objective opinions please

 That is if you are careful enough never to short any of the speaker terminals otherwise the Rotel might also roll up into a ball (of fire):D For more info about Rotels' short circuit protection (or lack thereof) see the other thread by PhillJones.

aluminum vs steel for amp stand support poles. Any effect on the amp?

Steel, wood, concrete everything would be ok. There would be no audible effects whatsoever. Dont worry about it.
