Generally speaking for any HDR source, picture mode in Cinema for darker rooms and Cinema Home for brighter rooms, leave DTM off (since DirecTV is not going to exceed 1000nits), Max brightness and enjoy!
Well, considering it's expected to be over $25,000, I'm sure this target market will just have to burn their discretionary holiday bonus on Samsung's latest 98" QN100B for over $30,000 that just released this week. If this article is to be believed, it must be some update because the predecessor...
I was informed by LG reps at the Shootout that they are very much planning for Q4 2022 release and they sounded pretty serious about this target date but as always "we'll see" right?
Good point, I kind of solved that by matrixing my Height Center channel (auro3d layout) and main Center channel (both speakers nearly identical above 100Hz) with the Trinnov to create a phantom channel in the middle of the screen! It's the center audio is anchored pretty well too.
How far are you all sitting from your projector screens, I'm curious. I'm exactly 10ft away which is perfect for the 97" 16:9 OLED but makes the 2.35:1 on the OLED a bit smaller than I'd like. I guess I could limit my widescreen movies to "IMAX Enhanced" Disney content LOL
BOE is the largest single panel manufacturer of LCD panels in China. It was the one that supplied Hisense with the dual-cell LCD system last year. They recently showed off their 95" 8K OLED at Displayweek so they can obviously handle a 4K 77" size...
Time rewards the patient man! I expect 77" C series TVs to drop to under $2K once BOE starts flooding the market with their 77" OLED panels (albeit likely inferior) in 2 years.
My quandry is the availability of the 97" OLED coming later this year. Given the likely price of the 97" LG G2 ($25,000 thereabouts) I'm now tempted to consider this as an alternative mostly because Projector + Screen + Lumagen/MadVR + Calibration of either Sony or JVC flagship laser projectors...
There is no doubt that the G2 is brighter in both APL and specular highlights, so if you are in a brighter room and need to be in standard/vivid mode to enjoy sporting content, then the G2 will do it better than the Sony.
Additionally, if you are a "serious" gamer then the G2 has the game bar...
Essentially, the G2 separates itself as a gaming TV, period. For movies, you'll be hard pressed to notice the differences once the G2 is calibrated. Look at these unique qualities of the G2 to see if it justifies the premium/wait: (1) lighter, thinner (2) full featured gaming TV (3) Web OS vs...
nevermind, just checked VE's spec sheet PDF and it's still IPS panel. The improvement would be to the overall contrast and definitely deeper blacks. If you see reviews of the QNED99 (on Best Buy or RTINGS), they're not favorable and I believe it's mostly due to the IPS panel.
