    New Line Cinema appreciation

What amazes me most about New Line is that they clearly go way out of there way to ensure that every bit of content of every one of their DVD's is presented w/the best quality possible (remastered, anamorphic, DD5.1, etc). I bet other studios (including sister company Warner Home Video) laugh at...

    New Line Cinema appreciation

New Line really does stand out from the rest of the pack. In addition to a guaranteed (more so than a THX certification too) top-notch transfer, some other things the separate New Line from all the other studios: Anamorphic everywhere -- not just trailers but *supplements* too. They spend the...

    New Secrets Progressive Scan Shootout!

The "really long cable" Y/C delay solution is legit. I got it from the infamous Guy Kuo way back when. Several others had to resort to it as well at the time. Steve

    New Secrets Progressive Scan Shootout!

AVIA has a Y/C Delay pattern that doesn't require any test equipment. But you would have to know for sure that your display has 0 Y/C delay error before concluding your DVD player has no Y/C delay problem. Steve

    New Secrets Progressive Scan Shootout!

Aha. There it is! One quick question though: is 480p considered an SD HDTV resolution? and DVD 480p then uses the HDTV SD YCbCr color matrix? OK, since there's no chance that I would ever see AVIA's red and green flashing color bar patterns through my HDTV STB to properly adjust the matrices...

    Toshiba geometry settings

Hey, Column O! I thought I recognized you. Good to see your still alive and kicking... there aren't many X81's still around anymore. Mine is still going strong and looking great. I too have a hard time imagining buying another set that didn't give me the same level of tweakability. I just...

Bass cancellation due to room modes?

You don't a mic. Just plug your RadioShack SPL meter into your soundcard and use a mic compensation file with the known RS SPL adjustments. Steve

Bass cancellation due to room modes?

Hey Chris. Nice site. Are you doing all that w/your soundmeter and Excel?? If so, you should take a look at SpectraLabs, so you can plug your sound meter into your computer for instanteous feedback on freq response changes. Steve

Bass cancellation due to room modes?

Here's something I've been wondering about regarding bass cancellation due to room modes: Say I measure some room nulls from my listening position. Are these only null from my listening position? ie. if I can't hear it, does that mean that my neighbors on top and below my apartment don't hear...

    Is SVHS-ET overrated?

OK, I just ordered a scratch & dent 7800 from Crutchfield for $169 so I'll find out if the white streaks are on the tape. I only use the VCR for time-shifting, so the worst possible scenario is some streaks in last week's Simpsons. It will be so nice not to see those damn streaks! Steve

Any Acurus AT-3ABM users out here?

I do find the internal click distracting. It's does seem really loud for a sound made w/o any moving parts. Hopefully, it's a little quieter in the Stage One. Please post your Outlaw comparison! Sounds like your not waiting around to trade in for the Stage One? Also, when did you send in your...
