    High Density Fibreboard

One of my friends works with MDF and HDF at his business. He told me that the HDF just has much more of the glue/resins that hold it together. It definitely has a stronger smell. If you use it, I'd make sure that you use something to seal it or you'll be smelling the chemicals in it for a while.

Holy Crap! Sounds to make the sub go baaaaarf...

There are a couple of flicks that really impress folks when I play them. We Were Soldiers and The Sum of All Fears. First of all my sub is a 122L sealed Tempest that is downfiring with a 250W PE plate. The gain is left at just a tad over a third of the way up. There are a couple of scenes in We...

Second project - Tempest sub. I start Saturday! Any last minute tips?

I agree with the above. My 122L sealed is fantastic. I can't imagine a ported version of this - or throwing more wattage at it. I'm using the 250W PE amp and am often amazed at the bass this thing can crank out. I use my sub for about 90% HT. My 281's will soon fill in the mid bass that I'm...

The **Show off your work** thread

Sorry Scott. I spent so much time on your page looking at your theater project, your name stuck. Very nice job, by the way. Actually, I meant to direct it to Rich Kraus.

The **Show off your work** thread

Scott, I noticed that you had some tiny Adire emblems on the grills of your 281's. How did you manage to score those? I'm starting my 281's in the next week or so.

    kit 281 flared port question

Tim, Those look great! Are you pleased with the sound? I'm planning on veneering them with a figured cherry and then darkening via oil until they match my 122L tempest and the rest of my furniture. Thanks for sharing the pics!

    kit 281 flared port question

Has anyone built the vented Adire 281 kit and used the PE flared ports( http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...D=117898&DID=7 )? They have 3 and 4 inch ports that seem to be the same as Adire's offering. They are about half the cost so I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks after spending a bundle...

    Sealed Tempest Sonosub for college

I built the 122L sealed Tempest and agree with Mark F., it's too much for a dorm room. My room is slightly larger than the dimensions that Mark gave. In a bass heavy movie, that sub absolutely shakes every floor of my house(the gain is only turned a third of the way up)! I never would have...

My tempest is killing my TV!!!!!

Seth, You may be right. I just moved the sub to it's own circuit and it had no effect. My TV is actually recessed in the wall above my fireplace so I would think that it would be less subject to vibration. I wonder if placing some kind of sound deadening mat under the TV would make a...

Darren, Good idea. I'll give that a try when I get home this afternoon.

My tempest is killing my TV!!!!!

Just moved the sub and didn't seem to make much of a difference. Man, I forgot how heavy that thing is. I made it out of baltic birch. My back would really be hurting now if I would have done it with 1" mdf like I'd originally planned. Until I find a solution, I have it turned down below 1/4 on...

My tempest is killing my TV!!!!!

Just in case anyone was questioning making one of these designs with a 250w PE amp, I have to straighten all pictures on the bottom floor of the house after watching a bassy movie like "We were soldiers" or LOTR! Just wanted to put in a plug for Adire and PE. Rod

My tempest is killing my TV!!!!!

Patrick, Thanks for the quick reply. I measured the distance from the corner of the sub to the TV and it's about 6 feet. If I were to move it to the other side of the couch, it would buy me another 5 feet. I might try that. Actually, that would put it more centrally located to both couches...

My tempest is killing my TV!!!!!

First of all, let me say that I love my 122L sealed tempest sub. It rocks. I've had it about a month and have really had fun breaking it in. The last three days, however, I've noticed that the bass is making my my TV picuture contort. It seems to be getting worse. I've disabled my center channel...
