DVD Review HTF Review: Mulholland Falls

Actually, the intent of the tumble was to rough him up, not kill him. Afterwards, battered and bleeding, but very much alive, he is told in no uncertain terms that he will receive this treatment every time the police have to expel him from L.A. The "Hat Squad" then drives off, leaving the...

New Content Mgmt Tech May Limit Our DVD Usage...

There is a piece of legislation called The Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 that permits some kinds of copying from CD. I'm not sure exactly which. In Canada, it is now legal to make copies of audio recordings for personal use. To compensate the music industry for any lost revenues, fees are...

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story - Anamorphic?

Get a Hitachi 51F500; anamorphic and non-anamorphic look pretty much alike. :) I used to have problems like you describe, until I switched to a home theater PC. Now, non-anamorphic just means a somewhat softer image. RD

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

I read in The Wall Street Journal some years back that competition from Circuit City and Divx spurred Best Buy and Toshiba to put a $300 DVD player on the market in time for Christmas 1998, well before experts thought that would be feasible. The Divx competition also spurred video renters to...

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

I wrote an article for Tech TV, but that's the extent of it. If I knew there was money in a book, I'd consider putting one together. :) As for the cheap player, you should be able to find one on eBay. It won't play the bonus features on the Amistad disc, though (registration is required)...

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

Used copies can be had on LD. I wonder if Fox has any plans to release it to DVD? Considering all the fluff that's been released to DVD in the five years since Divx was pulled, you'd think that this worthy and memorable title could have been given at least a bare-bones release. RD

I think he left the company, VERY rich.

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

There was a sell-through variant of Divx called DivxGold, but no DivxGold discs were ever marketed to the public. One title (Mulan) was prepared for a DivxGold release, and in fact was ready for mass replication, but Divx management (not Disney) ruled against releasing it for fear of starting a...

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

High Art is slated for a summer release, while Soldier's Daughter has been released to R1 DVD in the past, but is now out of print (Amazon has 34 used copies, if you want one). RD

DIVX is Dead Day 5th Anniversary

Yes, it's true that one Divx title (Madigan) sold less than 20 copies (nine, to be exact), and Alice sold only 50. In contrast, a number of hot new releases of the day had had five-figure sales on Divx by early June 1999, including The Waterboy (32,125), There's Something About Mary (45,933)...

No. You can't play the discs without a "registered" player, and without the central billing system, there are no registered players.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand CE Due 9/28!!!!!!

I started a thread near the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' coming to America, posing the question as to why this title hadn't been released. Glad that my question has finally been answered. :)

    Star Wars LD

FYI I think it is against the Forum rules to be posting eBay links. That being said, it's good to know that my $32.50 Faces set is now worth about three times that. :)
