    onkyo 601 pushing 4ohms????

Hi: It has been my experience as well as many others on various forums that Onkyo/Integra receivers do not work well with 4 ohm speakers, especially when they dip below the 4 ohm level. You will likely find they clip at higher volume levels, which can cause damage to the electronics as well as...

    VHS jitters

John: Most likely you are right but this is really bad. Can't really watch it the way it is. My other TV's and VHS don't do this. Might be the way it is connected. Will have to figure it out as I need it for a while anyway. R

    VHS jitters

John: I agree but I use VHS for recording network shows then play them back when I have time. We don't have TiVo up here yet, so my options are limited. Worked fine until I got my HD TV. Rick

    VHS jitters

Okay, don't slag me too badly for asking this low tech question but anyone know why my old Toshiba VHS player has the jitters in play back mode? Taping and watching golf is painful as close ups of the ball rolling on the green is very jerky...no wonder the players are missing their puts...

Sound and Video and SPL meter

I assume you are speaking of the S&V Home Theater Tune Up DVD? If that is the case, yes they do. There are two parts to the disk, one for audio, the other for video. Use your spl meter to balance the sound from all speakers. Good luck R

Has anyone noticed how low their RPTV is?

Ya', I agree...otherwise you would have to adjust the height for each viewer who was 8" shorter or taller than the other viewers....seems a bit anal don't you think? Enjoy your set and stop worrying about perfection, there is no such a thing.

MASTER BURN-IN THREAD: READ THIS FIRST! (And ask follow-ups here.)

Robert: To be safe, use stretch mode. Most new sets have a very good stretch option that doesn't distort the picture enough to be noticeable....you will be so wowed by the huge screen, you won't realize the images are stretched. Some sets like Toshiba have variable stretch modes that allow you...

Give / Receive the Gift of a Video Calibration: Question and Answer Thread

Just had my new Toshiba 57HX93 calibrated by MichealLTV. Suffice it to say, I had no idea how amazing this unit could look....and he almost made me want to go into the ISF business he had so much fun!!! Thank you Michael

I can atest to Gregg's post regarding calibration. While I do have a calibration disk, S&V, it is pale in comparison to my new, new television recently calibrated by MichaelTV..is amazing the difference. It now even is watchable on regular cable channels...worth the money. Rick

MASTER BURN-IN THREAD: READ THIS FIRST! (And ask follow-ups here.)

Thought this topic was dead but since it's not quite, here is some good stuff I learned from a member on another forum and it works! All of my previous posts were regarding stretching while watching cable tv. The channels that carry HD programming here(different from the analog channels) are...

HDTV picture quality... Why is there so much compression???

I think you have a Motorola DCT 5100 cable box and according to the cable provider tech in my area, they have been having some problems with pixilization with those boxes. Of course, he didn't have a solution. Rick

Michael: Thanks for your wisdom. I do think many of us are spending way too much time worrying about burn. I have not had my set professionally calibrated yet, but will after it gets a few more miles on it. I did calibrate it myself the very second I turned in on using S&V and took it off torch...

Toshiba 57HX83 - Any Issues or Problems?

Barry: I don't think the problem is with the cable/satellite provider but with the networks as they are the ones broadcasting the signals to the providers. As Michael says in his reply, the signals are simply upconverted to HD quality signals, which has no bearing on the picture format I guess...
