Lew, You mention you prefer the ELT center over the Ascend center.. Have you even directly compared the two in a listening test? If yes, what was it that you heard that made the difference for you? -R
I have had my 340s (with stands) for 30-days now and I am.. . . . . . . . . . . Keeping them for sure! As usual, they do exactly what Ascend claimed they would do. Play very loud without fatigue yet very detailed, fill a large room with great sound (sound good even from almost...
Hi Tommy, I just wanted to comment that there are plenty of unbiased professional reviews of the Aperions. What I mentioned in my post was that I was looking for measurements, that's all, as that diaural crossover technology interests me.
Hi, Actually Brad has it correct. The Ascends do go deeper then the Aperions. While aperion rates the response at 60-20khz, they don't say what the tolerance is and according to the aperion graph, they look to be -3dB down at 100hz while the Ascends are -3dB down at 69 hz, -10dB at around...
Just read the SoundStage! review on the Ascend site. What a great review and the measurements taken on the CBM-170 are certainly impressive? Every seen a flatter frequency response? I have ordered a preproduction version of the new center and I should have mine in about 5 days. Can't wait!
The C-3s certainly have a flat response, but, the recent soundstage measurements taken on the ascend CBM-170 is noticeably flatter. FYI, yes, I have seen a flatter response for considerably less money (the CBM-170).
Hi Chris, I have had the pleasure of listening to the S38s and I am a proud CBM-170 owner. Both are excellent speakers for the money but both are VERY different. I don't know why this thread has ended up in a "how loud this speaker plays" debate, you did not ask that question. The CBM-170s...
A warm welcome from me too, HF! I not only enjoyed your review of the Ascend speakers, but have also enjoyed many of your reviews over the years. I have also browsed though your HT book at a local Borders some time ago. I think it is a good idea to post curves in your reviews. I for one...
Hi, Speaker wire labelled as CL-3 is suitable for inwall wiring. It is not so much as a shielding issue as it is for the strength and type of dialetric (insulation) around the strands of wire. Wouldn't want the insulation rubbing against a metal jbox overtime and thus exposing raw wire which...
Just read the review tonight.
I found it very positive. HF basically stated that the CBM-170s combined with any Hsu subwoofer will stack up very well and knock the chip off the shoulder of many of the so called high end brands costing many times more. He also favorably compared the CBMs to a...
Someone mentioned my name? I don't think I was supposed to mention that new ascend center channel on a public forum. oops, my bad. Regardless, I do plan on picking one up as soon as they are available. If it sounds as good (or even better?) than what I have already, Im sold!
Rob, I own some ascends and couldn't be happier. Simply amazing with music and excellent for HT as well. I enquired if they were available in white (wanted a set for the bedroom). Unfortunately for me, they were not. Oh well. I have considered painting a pair though. Best of luck!
