    Solaris (1972) Blu-ray

There must be people who understand it because I went to a Film Club screening at which there was much muttering among the audience. It turned out three spools of the film, about twenty minutes each, had been shown in the wrong order. We were given tickets to come back the next night when it...

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

Guys, just to let you know there are long delays in postal and delivery services across Europe due to a reduction in transport options, cancelled flights etc. I've been waiting up to three weeks for packets which would normally take a day or two. Your disks are probably waiting to move on to a...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ Last Train from Gun Hill – in Blu-ray

The issue, if it is an issue, seems to be equipment dependent. I first tried the disk on a newer Sony player and high definition TV and the motion blur, a sort of strobe effect, was very evident. Player and TV have various picture enhancements but I have them all turned off. On an older...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ Last Train from Gun Hill – in Blu-ray

I still have the Super 8 print, mounted on a single big reel and it was screened many, many times for family and friends who have almost all passed away. Our regular postman complained that he never got to see any of the films he delivered to me, so a showing of "Last Train" had to be arranged...

A Few Words About A few words about…™ San Francisco – in Blu-ray

When they reissued it in 1948, MGM thought the 1936 sequence dated the picture. This despite the rest of it being set in 1906!

Many thanks for the good news, David. Very much appreciated.

A Few Words About A few words about…™ San Francisco – in Blu-ray

Does the movie have the original ending? The DVD had the 1948 reissue version showing a still picture of the then modern city. The proper finish has scenes of rebuilding including work on some kind of bridge which I believe may be still there.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Never Steal Anything Small -- in Blu-ray

In my case the cinema only ever had 35mm. Rank distributed Universal pictures at the time and I heard they had a few other prints like these intended for houses without 'scope screens.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Never Steal Anything Small -- in Blu-ray

This had an odd history even in the cinema. I saw it on a reissue double bill in the nineteen sixties with a Fred McMurray western. Both were CinemaScope but letterboxed onto standard ratio prints, the only two such 35mm prints I'd seen. The projectionist didn't know what to make of the tiny...

Kino-Lorber Insider Announcement Thread (Read Guidelines Post #3)

KL Insider, any chance of a favorite North-Western in your Universal series - "Back to God's Country" (1953)? Our local cinema had very poor heating and always showed this in wintertime. Rock Hudson, in the snow, was probably warmer than we were when it finished!

John Ford At Columbia 1935-1958 blu ray box set

Got mine yesterday from Amazon and can highly recommend it. Quality looks excellent and the set is beautifully presented with lots of poster art and a nice thick booklet full of interest for each film. Superb job from Powerhouse/Indicator. Box is numbered from a run of 6000, so may not be on the...

The Berlin Concert 2006 -- Music for Lockdown

My disk, released by Deutsche Grammophon, had wonderful picture and sound but has developed some fault and can no longer be played on anything. Sadly, the company I bought it from, Axel Music are also long out of business! Amazon have it but I'd be reluctant to buy the same edition again.
