I disagree with your opinion, the studio series offer a lot for the money, it was very good for entry level. The S38,S36 and S26 were really good bookshelfs. I think everything need to be renewed, and this was just the time for JBL to release new speaekers.

My 912K has a three options, 200Hz, 150Hz and 100Hz (no 80Hz). I dont know about the 914K.

I have one 912K and for the money is a great reciever, but its a very light reciever, compare to my marantz, I hope it can perform as well as my 912.

I have the sony SA-WX700, and IMO is the best sub under $200. It doesnt have the power and capabilities of my SVS in my other setup, but I felt the bass was pretty flat and accurate, but thats my personal opinion, try to go and audition it, and decide if it is right for you.
