Take a look at Sherwood AD7106, http://www.sherwoodusa.com/home_audio/hprec70_fs.htm
I got it for 216$ at fry's and it beats kenwood & other inexpensive receivers hands down.

Hi On weekend I upgraded my KLH front speakers to Polk Audio R40. When I play anything, these speakers gave a hissing sound. Even when i play movies with no sound [mute], i can still hear hissing from, topmost speaker or tweeter. When I revert to my KLH's there is no hissing. Can anyone...
Hi I have an Apex dvd player, which can read both NTSC & PAL DVD and a TV which can also dispaly both NTSC & PAL videos. But in my HT setup I have Sherwood Receiver which has video switching mode of NTSC only. I am wondring if I can play Asian DVD's which are PAL encoded. Can anyone...
If you have one of those APEX models you can . How you can do it depends on what model you have.
Best is to search in google with "Hacking "

If you need a modrately priced receiver take a look at Sherwood AD7106, its 216$ at frys. checkout Specs at www.sherwoodUSA.com.
I compared Sherwood & Kenwood side by side in my own room ( thanks Fry's) and Sherwood beat Kenwood hands down in Audio quality. Just my 2 cents
Couple of things
1) Home theater in a box will *NOT* give you great audio, so if you want to use it to listen audio cd's think again.
2) Everyone has its own listing choices, try to get an in house demo before deciding Kenwood or any other brand.
Hope this helps

Mark I am in same boat as you, Try this
From your DVD player, take the L&R audio out to CD input ( NOT Audio jack for video input) it helped me a little. If you have AVIA try calibration also.
I have a Sherwood AD7106 = 216$ from frys & KLH HT9900 Speakers 99$ from Amazon.com.
I tried Kenwood 505 and JBL NSP1, at least for my ears Sherwood, KLH was far superior to Kenwood/JBL for audio music.
BTW I saw JBL NSP1 open box @200$ and new 275$ at Best Buys.
Thanks for your reply.
My receiver is 110W * 5 Sherwood 7106. And speakers are KLH 60 Watt each and 87db @ 1m.
Can you please elaborate how to make sub powered? that sounds interesting DIY project.
Thanks
