Press Release Shout Factory Press Release: Slap Shot (1977) (Limited Edition Steelbok) (Blu-ray)

A criminally underrated 70s class. Like all films by George Roy Hill, there's more to this film than meets the eye. It's a sharply observed microcosm of America in the guise of a "hockey" film. Great casting and direction as well as being superbly edited by one of the great editors Dede...

    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ Reds – in Blu-ray

Thank you Mr. Harris. "Brilliant filmmaking captured on a tiny disc." You said it perfectly. We've debated the merits of this film on other forums. Can't wait to see this eloquent, inspired epic remastered. Amazing performances from too many great actors to name here. We will probably never...

You know what movie fits Sirk's description? Nicholas Ray's JOHNNY GUITAR!

    Blu-ray Review Fury (1936) Blu-ray Review

Viewing it now. A huge improvement over the DVD. Damn! Lang was a prophet. I'm just shaking my head in astonishment over Lang's genius and the relevancy of this film. And the commentary by Peter Bogdanovich is essential too - to the understanding of the film and the worldview and career of...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Written on the Wind (1956) (Blu-ray)

The full quote by Sirk is this..."“This is the dialectic - there is a very short distance between high art and trash, and trash that contains an element of craziness is by this very quality nearer to art.” If you leave out the "craziness" part, the quote misses the mark. It encapsulates Sirk at...

    Blu-ray Review Fury (1936) Blu-ray Review

It is not a perfect movie and even Lang in interviews stated that he made many compromises and that he had to come to terms with what American audiences and producers expected from him. But this is a film with several sequences of unparalleled cinematic vision and mastery. And like others...

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

We need a blu ray of PUBLIC ENEMY, I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG, and G MEN! And speaking of WBros., we need a Criterion level presentation of THE WILD BUNCH. Pound for pound, THE WILD BUNCH may be one of the most influential films made in any country since 1965.

You should really watch Fury. It's the only film listed that you would see in film school or studied. Fritz Lang was a giant; an artist of the highest order. Fury, his first American film, is of lasting cultural and artistic significance.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ Universal Classic Monsters -- in 4k UHD

I'm with you here. It's too complicated. I drove myself nuts dealing with the 4k vs blu ray of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. At first 4k viewing I said to myself "I don't remember it this dark and murky in the theatre." Popped out the 4k but on the blu ray and was happier. I don't want to...

Pre-Order Fury (1936) (Warner Archive Collection) Available for Preorder

I can't believe I missed this! This is an important release and one of the last - if not the last - of Lang's MAJOR works not on blu ray...until this comes out. It deserves a Criterion release actually - there are several incredibly brilliant scenes in FURY, one specifically among the most...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ Universal Classic Monsters -- in 4k UHD

Yes, Henry is up against the castle wall in the back. Never noticed it before it was pointed out (not sure where I first read it...the Curtis bio of Whale?) So obviously the film's end was rethought .
