    Office WLAN

Thanks for the reply, Mike. It may be a little more than I want to bite off, especially Linux as I am using specific dental software that is picky on its op. system. Also I probably don't know enough about this stuff to get this technical. Mike

    Office WLAN

I'm setting up my wife's dental office, and installing Cat5 to all the rooms for a peer-to-peer network. I'll be connected to cable for the network. What would I have to do to have a WLAN available to the waiting room patients, like an "internet cafe"? Obviously the wireless can't have access to...

where are all the AV12 or AV15 threads?

Well, you could build the same size box with 2-4" vents, about 18" long and obtain nearly the same response. One PR wouldn't work well, so it should either be 2 PRs, or vents. As for closed, well in 100L box, which is noticeably smaller, you would get 3dB less output at 40, 5dB less at 30Hz, and...

where are all the AV12 or AV15 threads?

Hi Serge, ambitious project. I built 2 using 12" lambda and 15" PRs, and love them. I used 3/4" baltic birch laminated with 3/4" MDF for sides, top and back. I inserted 3/4" redwood strips in all the corners; they look sharp. No rattles; I had to put some rubber feet on as they will walk around...

    Subwoofer Calibration?

A couple things: first when you hear the snapping sound during loud bass passages, its likely the voice coil of the sub smashing into the backplate. Not a good sound; your sub will be damaged if that happens often enough. Don't pay any attention to the numbers except as a reference, as someone...

You might want to take a look at these. http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=WHP160-R RCA wireless from computer geeks, only $25. I'm going to get a set myself, probably not up to my Sennheisers but may be fun to play with. Mike

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Death In Venice (1971)

We lost one of the greats when Dirk died a few years ago. The initial reaction was mixed, to say the least. In his autobiography, Bogarde recounts the story, told him by Visconti, of the first screening of Death in Venice for "the American Money," i.e., a room full of studio executives...

DVD LCD Roof mount which one to get?

Something is fishy, Wes. Icon shows a list of $1999 just for the monitor, which seems quite high? Can you elaborate a little on the prices? Thanks, Mike

    HE 10.1 Measurements

Here are some results from someone who built these, and has measurement software: http://www.gti.net/wallin/audio/he_crate/he_crate.html Although the response is somewhat ragged, I've talked to him about the speakers, and he likes them in general. Says imaging is impressive, along with...

Can a server be used as a stand alone PC? Need quick answer

I just got off the phone with Dell support. The machine doesn't have an AGP slot, but there is a built in ATI Rage video. The tech said sound isn't guaranteed to work, also the pci slots are 3.3V. Its cheap, but a lot of work to make it be a good PC, I think. Mike

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: "The Bourne Identity" (with screenshots)

To those looking for a good spy movie, check out the 1965 (?) release of "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold". Richard Burton received a well-deserved Oscar nomination; he was robbed in a lot of folks estimation. Back in the days when a movie relied on plot development and character to be...
