A Few Words About A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in Blu-ray

Inspired by the recent Nitrateville interview, I had a Memorial Day Robert A. Harris Film Festival, with all three parts of the Godfather trilogy (2008 version) and Lawrence (twice). I finally got around to opening my deluxe box set of Lawrence, and my 70mm frame is with O'Toole and the glass of...

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Lawrence of Arabia - in 4k UHD Blu-ray

Mr. Harris, you've mentioned a couple times here, and also in your recent Nitrateville interview, about the Technicolor processing error making the original prints turn green in a matter of weeks. Do you know why that happened, or specifically what the processing error was? It seems weird that...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about…™ The Johnstown Flood - in Blu-ray

The interview on Nitrateville is excellent; I just listened to it yesterday. Very much looking forward to this getting a disc release eventually.

A Few Words About What percentage of home video collectors possess 3D anaglyph glasses?

May I suggest that it's a mistake to make the Johnstown Flood stereographs anaglyph only? If you make them in proper Blu-ray 3D, there is a niche audience of Blu-ray 3D zealots who will buy the release for that reason only. You will not get their attention with anaglyph. That said, I think I...

    Weird Disc Rot (?) Experience

I had a weird experience with the Game of Thrones Season 6 disc one blu-ray yesterday. I had watched it with zero problems when it came out some years ago. I put it into a Toshiba player, and it started to play, then froze with rainbow colored pixelation. The player wouldn't respond at all until...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) – in Blu-ray

There is no extant 35mm material on this film so far as can be established. There have been rumors of a 35mm print for decades, but those have never amounted to more than rumors. If there's a 35mm print, it's very well hidden.

    Coppola/Zoetrope version of Napoleon?

Most likely. I think it's there just to give the opportunity for someone nuts enough to try it. I've never heard of anyone doing it successfully, but maybe someone at HTF has managed it.

    Coppola/Zoetrope version of Napoleon?

Right. The triptych appears in context in the film proper, but there is also a bonus feature on each of the 3 discs of the triptych alone, with a different one of the panels as a bonus feature on each disc. So you need 3 players and 3 TVs, but only one of the BFI set. I think it's expressly so...

    Coppola/Zoetrope version of Napoleon?

That is correct. There are 3 discs in the BFI set, each of which has an optional triptych panel on it, so with 3 blu-ray players and 3 TVs you can recreate the full experience. I could potentially do it, but it would mean lugging several pieces of equipment around and I've never felt compelled...

    Coppola/Zoetrope version of Napoleon?

Thanks for the link to that article about the versions and the cataloguing; the librarian in me finds that kind of stuff fascinating. The BFI set is quite wonderful and worth getting if you are region-free. I hope the Cinematheque will eventually release their work---it'd be nice to have...

    Wanted: GUNSMOKE (CBS/1955-1975)

As was the case for most people, my box arrived with one seam completely ripped out. I'm not sure it's worthwhile trying to get it replaced. EDIT: Well, Amazon made my decision to return easier. They're currently selling the box for $217, so I sent back the busted one and ordered the new one...

    Wanted: GUNSMOKE (CBS/1955-1975)

    Wanted: GUNSMOKE (CBS/1955-1975)

That's great news; I just came here to check to see whether or not it was in print. Thanks for the legwork, Stan.

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Dave Strohmaier was on a recent Nitrateville podcast and he indicated GRIMM is still in rights hell with no movement by Warner. He also confirmed he is retired, but didn't exactly rule out coming out of retirement just in case a miracle happened on GRIMM. Very interesting listen overall (the...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blache - DVD

I'm not positive what you're getting at, but it sounds like you're saying it's impossible to see her films. While a lot of Alice Guy-Blaché's output no longer exists, I have some films directed by her on DVD. On The Movies Begin (Image/Film Preservation Associates), volume 5, there's one of her...
