A Few Words About A few words about...™ Public Enemies -- in Blu-ray

The Cineplex at Yonge Dundas is 4K. AMC rigged every screen there with 4K Sony projectors and cineplex inherited it. The higher quality has always been evident. The the Cineplex AVX screens don't stand up to 4K.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Public Enemies -- in Blu-ray

I'm living East of Toronto too! I find the Empire Theatre in Whitby still looks really good. The digital projectors the Cineplex chain bought look to be murky 2K and look like poorly blown up DVDs. The Cineplex at Yonge Dundas looks a lot better though since they inherited the 4K Sony projectors...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Public Enemies -- in Blu-ray

In the scale of how quickly this tech is evolving, I'd say 'early days' relatively speaking! One of the things I gathered from the Keanu Reeves hosted documentary about the digital switchover is that the tech is advancing rapidly. Problems that were inherit in the first batch of cameras have...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Public Enemies -- in Blu-ray

That is how it looked in theatres and it took me out of the experience frequently. Somehow the darker sequences just appeared like poor grade camcorder footage, and every time I've seen this in passing even on broadcast TV, it looked poor. The early days of digital film were quick murky. The...

It is much more "satisfying" purchasing movies in high-def.

Sadly commercial cinema has really killed the potential of 35 mm celluloid. What very well still is a superior format is being run down by over duplicated prints and careless quality control at the projection end. Digital projection has become the 'solution' to these problems in lieu of...

    Survivor: Gabon - Season 17

Randy's mohawk is courtesy Corrine as the Survivor Ponderosa videos show. It was a bit confusing for a while though as they posted online a video of Randi's thoughts after the game wherein he had the mohawk, yet appeared on the show at the next tribal council without! The order of events got a...

I'm bummed cuz it seems like a drought for good movies this holiday season....

I saw this on a link through imdb. Damn financial concerns get in the way. It seems that these films that would ordinarily go here are in fact in the can, but are being held into the new year so that these studios balance sheets look better when they have to report them to the stockholders...

Dark Knight: To IMAX or not?

Superman was not shot in IMAX. It was shot conventionally (in digital I believe) and 3D scenes were converted, but since it was not shot 3D on set they had to do the 3D work entirely in post. The result was an extremely fake looking 'cardboard cutout' appearance which looked exactly like what it...

'La Vie En Rose' Warning about Canadian Release

I'm surprised to not see this already on this forum... I rented this on SD-DVD from Rogers Video, was a little miffed when I first saw the Quebecor media logo at the front, (Since when does this conglomerate, famous for the sleazefest tabloid Toronto Sun start releasing foreign film DVDs?!)...

What is Your Single Favorite Thing About Blu-ray (or Other HD) Playback?

What I find impressive just fresh off a bout of 'Lord of War' on BD and 'The Mist' on DVD, (Still loved 'The Mist' for the record, despite the no BD.) is just how utterly film like it is. I speak as someone who actually LIKES film grain... I love the look of it. I also just love the vibrant way...

30 Days of Night - On the screen in theaters - should be on Blu-ray disc

hmm... I was under the impression that the subtitles on the original Star Wars were burned into the picture and thus impossible to move. I've only ever seen these DVDs once from when I was working as a projectionist at Carleton University, the newest DVD set for 'A New Hope' was left there in...

30 Days of Night - On the screen in theaters - should be on Blu-ray disc

This isn't a problem exclusive to Blu-Ray! Another one of the reasons I've not picked up the Star Wars DVDs with the original theatrical cuts is that I've seen them and know that the subtitles are sitting below the 2.35 picture and I now would not be able to even see them on my new Widescreen TV...

    Juno (2007)

Just for the record... I hated 'Little Miss Sunshine' (Okay maybe not so much as hate... but resent the fact that it looked for a while it might deny 'The Departed' of its Oscar worthiness it later received.) for the simple reason that I found as much as it pitched itself as an indie, it ended...

Survivor: China (Survivor #15) Discussion Thread

The way I would run things for a tie, and perhaps it was done this way, is that after the jury votes, ask each of the final three to approach the voting booth, and cast a vote for either of the two other finalists as a tie breaker, and stick it in an envelope. This envelope would only be opened...

Survivor: China (Survivor #15) Discussion Thread

^ ^ Well I think Amanda had interest in joining PG to vote out Todd, but Denise being the 'play it safe' kind of player she is, just wouldn't go for it, so in the end Amanda cannot burn her bridges and vote for Todd if it isn't going to be an elimination vote. After rooting against him...
