big floor speakers, small center speaker

Mark: in this situation, I would advise not using a center channel speaker at all. Set your receiver's speaker management system to "No center" and the center info will be redirected to the front left & right speakers. The disadvantage to this configuration is that people seated off to the...

    Speaker set up question

Hi Jay, Placing speakers intended for HT use in or next to the ceiling is pretty much the worst location possible. You won't have a home theater, instead, what you'll have is a set of speakers that happen to be in the same room with a TV i.e. the sound will not match up with the image - NOT good.

Why do so many kids not like milk anymore?

Besides the fat/calorie issue, this is the reason I don't like drinking anything but skim milk nowadays - just too much creeeeeeaminess. It took me awhile to get used to the relatively watery sensation of skim but after a week or so, I didn't notice it anymore (but we keep some whole milk around...

Why do so many kids not like milk anymore?

I read plenty of surveys and articles about the fact more and more kids don't like milk, but I do not recall any ever mentioning WHY they don't like it. And where are they getting their calcium from now, if not from milk? I know broccolli for example is (surprisingly) supposed to be a good...

Brown bread from a store-bought can - any good?

Thanks Jeff! I wasn't even sure if anyone would read this - what the heck....a thread about bread in a can?! - much less reply. My buddy is telling me as I write this that he's seen B&M brown bread somewhere in Houston, but can't remember where (maybe down here it's just a seasonal thing?)...

Brown bread from a store-bought can - any good?

I need some help from my northeastern brothers and sisters. I like traveling and eating, and one of the sites I use to help me find places for quality cuisine is roadfood.com (click on "Restaurants" for the search feature; most of the photos on that site are excellent). While puttering around...

    A question on two systems...

I'm glad it worked out for you. I wish CV's speakers were sold more widely though, in particular at brick-n-mortar stores. So many young people are growing up thinking (not their fault) that music should only be listened to via the cheapo earbuds their MP3 player came with. I have nothing...

    Beatles in Hi-Rez

Well the fact they are still selling the LOVE dvd-audio seems to indicate they think hi-res multichannel music sells decently, so I think there's a good chance of that. BTW the format they used was 192kHz. Personally what I am hoping for is faithful remixes (of the albums that can be remixed)...

    home theater system turntable

Statistically speaking, I would agree with you that the problem is probably with the turntable (25 years for a highly mechanical piece of gear vs. 6 months for something with no moving parts). So just buy this turntable and I'm sure all your problems will be solved.

    Sony BDV-IS1000 S-Air Problems

I don't usually pick small details out of peoples' messages, but I wanted to say something about this: the 1080i (interlaced) system doesn't actually skip i.e. leave out any visual information; instead, it "draws" half the frame on the screen using every other line in a frame, then immediately...

    Technics SA-GX910

Hey John, the link to that receiver ended up going to one of those funky....whatever....pages with a bunch of vaguely-related links instead of the actual vintagetechnics site, which has the ".info" domain ending instead of ".com". I found this though...

Need Advice on a 2-zone receiver

Maybe this receiver will work for you (MSRP $299): Sherwood RX-5502 Multi-Source/Dual-Zone 400 Watt Stereo Receiver Based on skimming through its downloadable manual, it looks like it can play one source & power a pair of speakers in one room, and it can play a 2nd source via another pair of...

    home theater system turntable

Dave: I found this preamp using TCC-750 in google and it seems straightforward i.e. no extra controls or inputs (say, for a moving coil cartridge) so unless it is defective, the scratchy noise maybe/possibly/could be coming from the type of cable being used to connect the turntable to the...

    home theater system turntable

What model specifically? There are many Technics tables, from entry-level belt drives costing $150 (today's dollars) to $500 direct-drive models still sold now some music labels use these days to archive their own vinyl to digital form when they can't find the master tapes. Does the tonearm use...
