For $50, on day 1, there's not a lot.
I recently pre-ordered Stop Making Sense for ~$70, but I was only willing to pay that because it's a favorite film with a passionate, but somewhat niche audience, and I know how much work went into restoring it.
I'm comfortable pre-ordering titles I like...
I wouldn't rely on iPhone screengrabs for that determination. The screengrabs are 2778x1284, which is ~2.16:1 and, not coincidentally, the native ratio of certain iPhone screens. The HD screenshots are zoomed to fill that screen. The UHD grabs are not zoomed.
That's ultimately why I prefer it, though I miss the gorgeous shot of Lake Shore Drive from the alternate ending. For me, the perfect ending would mostly use the alternate ending but replace Joel's "Isn't it grand?" voiceover line--which just ends the film on such a dour note--with the...
Interested to see the Director’s Cut. I know Brickman’s preferred ending has been available to watch for awhile now, but has it ever been integrated into the film in an official release?
I understand the updates to the HEVC spec have mainly added support for additional profiles and metadata that do not really impact compression efficiency, but once streaming fully transitions to AV1 (which is 30% more efficient than HEVC), I expect streaming video to match or even surpass UHD.
It’s not all that rare. 50-60 GB is typical. Kino and Criterion releases are almost all now 80-90 GB, and larger file sizes are becoming more common from other distributors as they increasingly use triple layer discs. I rip all my UHDs to a media server, and my wallet has become keenly...
I share Todd’s sentiments on the film. It’s a superfluous production. The musical numbers just aren’t good enough or seamlessly integrated enough to justify their inclusion. Fantasia and Danielle Brooks are good, but Whoopi and Oprah were better, and the craft is lacking compared to the...
I’ve deliberately avoided posting because I’m not particularly interested in perpetuating any “debate” on these releases, but since Crawdaddy asked for input from the “silent majority”:
I have only watched Aliens and The Abyss so far. They’re not the masters I would have chosen to release, but...
He also had a personal animosity toward anamorphic stemming from his experience as DP for the matte paintings on Escape for New York. Apparently, matching the matte photography to the anamorphic lens distortion in the live action photography made Cameron’s life miserable. He swore off...
The article linked in RAH's initial post describes how the night scenes were shot and explains their unique look. TLDR: Each night scene was shot day-for-night with 65mm film and digital infrared cameras aligned in a modified 3D rig. The infrared footage was then incorporated in the grading...
The Bits just posted an update, which further suggests that this is not a simple distribution arrangement ala SDS or Sony/Lionsgate. It's a licensing arrangement, and Sony will have a say in what titles are released:

Do you still plan on keeping the other RAID enclosures? Since you are considering the Pro-Blade, I am assuming the Mac Studio would be directly attached to the RAID enclosures via Thunderbolt instead of via network.
Depending on budget, workflow, and the age of the existing drives, I might...
