My Completed Home Theater Project... (pic's)

I thought about two rows of seats, but there were several reasons I decided against it... I would not be able to open the rear french doors, This would permamently 'close' the room. (Right now I can open doors on both sides and create an open concept.) I would have to build a riser for the...

The paint is from the Benjamin Moore collection. Color code was posted in one of the earlier threads in this post. Looks much nicer in person. The pics I took have a lot of light projected on to the walls...

How did you go about submitting your room to the magazine? I had sent the same mag an email when I completed my theater and didn't ever get a reply. I guess mine is not good enough! :-)

I completely agree with you. The pics posted here were taken with some ambient light, and the lights right above the doors certainly don't help. With the lighting dimmed down all the way, it's not a big problem although bright scenes will show the white doors again. I do plan on painting them...

Odd Movie Poster sizes from a theater

Another place that has in-expensive poster frames is IKEA. Michaels also has the standard metal black frames with plexiglass. Personally I don't like the metal ones as they shake and vibrate with loud bass scenes. I ended up returning them. Also I found the glass has a glare so I actually got...

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm just trying to make time to enjoy it now. It's funny when my wife keeps asking "You wanna' watch a movie tonight?" It sure makes the experience more dramatic to say the least. You hear sounds and notice details that would otherwise be missed. I've never been a...

Pic's have been updated with my new Palliser seats and custom framed movie posters. I decided to get them dry mounted without glass to prevent any glare. Even the anti-glare glass shines with lights above it. Now my theater is truly complete...:D

How to automatically turn ambient light on?

Even easier...plug the lights into the rear of your AV receiver. Surely it must have a switched outlet on the back...

Thanks! With the ducting in the way all I could fit was 3" recessed halogen lights. A nice trick with the lighting is a simple Lutron dimmer switch from home depot. The lights come on and off slowly just like in a real theater and with a remote control. You can then use a programmable remote...

First PAUSE the onscreen video to prevent motion blurr. Secondly hold your camera VERY still or use a tripod stand. You will have to play with the shutter settings on your camera to get an ideal picture, or set it to night mode...;) I used a digital SLR - Nikon D70 with high-end ED series...

Benjamin Moore HC-85. I painted my basement different shades of taupe and this is a beautiful color especially for the HT room.

The trick is to do it in stages! Obviously I didn't have the cash to go out and buy everything in a day, or hire a contractor to build the basement right away. I told her from day one that I'm putting in the time & effort to build the basement myself and the only thing I had done was the...

Anyone have the HD-A2 and a Harman Kardon HDMI receiver?

Finally heard back from HK support. Here is what they say... "I am very sorry but our receivers do not support multi-channel Linear PCM at this time." That's just great! I thought Harman Kardon made some of the best receivers out there. What's the point of providing a HDMI output if...

I plan on putting the seats at approx. 18ft away from the screen. This should also give me about a 6ft distance from the rear wall and enough clearance to swing open the rear doors.

Question on hanging up movie posters...

My theater has a clean simple look to it. I am thinking of hanging up some movie posters but before I put nails in the walls, I have a couple of doubts... For one, the glass will probably shine and glare especially if the frames are mounted along the side walls. Secondly the sub will...
