    'Miami Vice' Details

Has anyone with the DC noticed a problem with the picture at the 1 hr 50 min. mark, when Crockett is using his satellite phone. For a few seconds, there is some horrible horizontal banding interference - they best way I can describe it - visible in the sky. When the camera angle changes, it goes...

New 2-Disc Region 1 NTSC DVD of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" (1974) in the works!

Just watched the new TCM 2-disc movie, with the DD5.1 track. The change that was really noticeable for me was that the radio news broadcast, which plays over the zoom out over the graveyard corpse, carries on over the opening credits at the same volume. You get to hear some random news items...

    ABBA: The Movie on DVD

On the subject of mastering, has anyone noticed any glitches on the R2 disc? I am on my second copy - both have choked at the following points, all in the middle of songs - sometimes resulting in a momentary sound drop-out (although the DTS flag on my amp stays on), other times resulting in...

Warning: P&S Alert MGM (Sony) does it again...

I know it doesn't ease your pain much, but get yourself a multi-region/multi-standard player, and all these problems disappear :) Annie, Snow Dogs, Natty Gann etc. are all available in widescreen in R2. -- J.

    Layer Cake opinions?

I bought this when it came out, having seen it at the cinema. I thought it was a great film, stylish and absorbing. I admired what the director was trying to achieve with his first movie. In the booklet that comes with the R2, Matthew Vaughn is quoted as saying that he shot the film in 2.35:1...

The Crying Game on DVD... (MERGED THREAD)

Oooh, that looks good! I already have the bare-bones anamorphic MGM R2, but I might have to get the R1 CE :) Surprising how well this film did in the US compared to the UK. Those Weinstein brothers know a thing or two about marketing :) A.

    The Pink Panther Collection DVDs

Is there any news on whether there will be a Return Of The Pink Panther re-release or SE? I'd buy this in an instant to complement the boxset. IMHO the only thing that spoils the boxset is having one film (and one of the funniest) missing. J.

Enigma Special Edition - Rubbish Transfer Again?

I have the Enigma SE, and the picture is perfectly acceptable. Note that the transfer is at the correct AR of 2.35:1, unlike the R2 and R4 versions which are cropped to 16:9. -- J.

    Sleeping Beauty and Technirama 70

Wasn't the 2-disc SE of Se7en mastered from the camera negative? I remember reading an interview with David Fincher where he said that he wasn't happy with the results he was getting from the inter-positive, and managed to sneak the original negative out of the vault :D I imagine the...

Phone Booth: Cover and Disc Specs

I wonder how they're going to achieve the picture-in-picture effect on the 4:3 version? -- J.

Me Without You -- P&S! Shame on you Columbia

Is it possible that Columbia have saved money by using a 16:9 transfer prepared for HBO or some other channel that routinely crops 2.35:1 material? I suspect this is why we got a 16:9 Enigma in the UK... hopefully the upcoming SE will fix that though :) -- J.

    Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Just to be picky, shouldn't CCBB be framed at 2:20, since it was shot in Super Panavision 70? This is assuming a 70mm print is available for the DVD mastering, rather than a 35mm down-conversion. -- J.
