HDMI vs. DVI on pre-pros & receivers - Outlaw Audio was right a couple of years ago

Your aggravation is just the sort of thing that many of us have been expecting consumers to express (and I suspect part of the reason for RAF's eloquent comments here - which as a contented owner of an Outlaw Model 990 I find myself agreeing with). I do not expect firmware updates to be able to...

    Outlaw Audio 990 Preamp/Processor cost

Outlaw has opened a waiting list for it and hopes to start shipping them out by mid to late May (they left the factory a few weeks ago). The price is $1099.

    Outlaw's new pre/pro, the 990.

Atlantic Technology is a speaker manufacturer, and Peter Tribeman is a senior figure there (president and CEO, according to their website). Peter is also a higher-up in Outlaw, although the two companies are otherwise unrelated as far as I know. Atlantic Technology did venture into electronics...

    Yamaha DVD-1500

My budget seems to match Carlo's -- I would certainly not turn the Denon 2200 down, but my budget can't really handly the $600. $400 for an S1500 is within my reach, which is why I've been watching for news about it. My local Yamaha dealer was expecting the first shipment in June, and I'm on the...

I am lost on picking a DVD player

What about the Yamaha S1500 that's due out in March? Not a lot of info available on it, but it is supposed to be a DVD-A/SACD universal with Faroudja.

    Harry Potter CPS Audio Dropouts

What receiver were you using? There are a number of receivers with proprietary EX decoding that had problems with an EX flag included on Jurassic Park III, Pearl Harbor, and Atlantis. Chamber of Secrets uses the same flag (or at least a similar one).

    Help a dummy........

The Pioneer Elite 43TX, 45TX, 47TX, and 49TX will all decode DTS 96/24. As near as I can tell, the Sony 4ES can also decode DTS 96/24.

    Help a dummy........

Well, here's some info from DTS's online FAQ that helps clarify what Marty was saying (see item 9 in particular):

processors and amps? what companys do make these setups?

As for the original question -- separates offers a couple of benefits: better isolates the amplification from the signal processing and switching (with potential benefits in sound quality), and if you choose to invest in good amps you can likely use them for a good long while, replacing only the...

Outlaw 950/770 Owners chime in please

As of December 17, Outlaw's been shipping a revised design that has eliminated the hiss issue on the last problem cases (typically users of very high efficiency speakers like Klipsh horns). It would appear that the hiss is dead. As for what people use with them, I'm using a 950/750 combo with...

Paradigm, Bose, Athena or Polk Audio?

Having used both Bose (Acoustimass 7 and Model 100's) and Paradigm (Reference Studio/60's, Studio/CC, and Studio/ADP's), I will concur with Michael_V -- Bose doesn't even belong on the list. I'm not sure which it's more unfair to: Paradigm for placed in the company of Bose, or Bose for being...

What does OUTLAW do with their returned 950's?

Outlaw indicated at the time of the original drop-out bug that the small number of units returned then would be kept for testing and not re-sold. I would think that the additional returns since then will end up for sale as B-stock. Returned units can be sold as B-stock (either refurbished if...

    Mounting Paradigm Studio ADP ?

I'll chime in with the "drywall anchors are fine" camp -- I've had them in place for over a year now without any trouble.

$200 DVD Player - pls. help me pick one

The Panasonic DVD-RA60 (which is not listed on Panasonic's site, but last I checked was still available on Best Buy's site) retails for at or under $200 -- it supports DVD-Audio, and is not progressive scan. I've been very pleased with mine.
