What's an appropriate measurement, depth and width, for a storage closet (for lack of a better word) for a home theater? I'll be running all my components out of this space, I just want to make sure I'm not building it too small.
Our home theater is being built in the basement. I think the room-within-a-room build would be overkill, since the basement doesn't see nearly the amount of use as the ground floor.
However, I'd like to keep the noise from getting through drywall and joists in the ceiling. Would I benefit from...
You think a "mobile phone on the shitter" qualifies as a "home theater"?
I guess you're going to have a problem with me, then, because that's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in a special interest forum -- and I belong to a number of forums.
This kind of reply stinks of you...
I know I’m late to this, but that’s a pretty bad analogy.
Putting a 27” tube TV on an IKEA shelving unit and calling it a “home theater” makes about as much sense as buying a Schwinn and calling it a “motorcycle” because it has handlebars, a seat, and two wheels.
I’m actually building a home...
Our plans have been approved and my permit is ready to go!
Another question regarding the build: three of my four walls are exterior concrete. Should I plan for channels between the wood frame and the exterior concrete walls, or is there no real reason to leave more than the standard amount of...
I was thinking the same thing, but I thought having the door would eliminate the need to double-wall the closet. A rough estimate for the closet is 3' wide (not entirely sure on the depth), so I might still have enough space to pull it off.
I installed the repeater at my old house around 8...
Here's a very, very rough draft of my home theater layout and a bullet point list of ideas that I'm considering, though are likely to be revised in one way or another as I go:
The room will be its own entity, not an open floor plan to the rest of the basement.
AV closet: a space for all the...
Sorry if this is a common question: we’re finally designing our basement layout and I’m having a hard time trying to find a useful program to aid in the design. There’s a ton of them!
We have a totally blank slate. Any recommendations?
I seem to recall a group of people who successfully created a third party program that mimics Nintendo’s online services for Wii systems. Google is failing me, though
Our home theater and game room are going to be in our currently unfinished basement. Since there's so much conduit and piping running along various parts of the ceiling, the guys I'm working with suggested using drop ceiling. That way, if something were to go wrong, we wouldn't have to tear a...
I should consider futons. That's a good call.
As far as who will be gaming: it'll run the gamut. We've got a Fortnite-infatuated teenager at home and a bunch of my friends who dig old school stuff.
Inexpensive furniture is fine by me. The quality won't be top notch, but realistically, it's not...
Don't even get me started on Mariokart! I think I found a way to network several Wiis together and that's just damn dangerous for me to even think about right now, given that I don't even have a spot to put them. :)
