Mr. Prior, if you're still checking in: Reports are beginning to surface that ZODIAC: DIRECTOR'S CUT clocks in at 163 minutes. My understanding was that this cut would be substantially longer than the theatrical issue. Can you confirm or deny?
Thank you both for your thoughts - this is beginning to get confusing. I'm leaning more toward Cees' explanation, but will probably prevail upon Circuit City or some other to let me check out my XA2 on other displays, as per Mark. I'm hesitant to blame the player right off because the added...
Nobody? It's difficult researching this, what with all the proprietary-named marketing-speak all the companies engage in. It's really hard to find straight-forward specs on anything...
An Addendum: The Player definitely took all the upgrades - it's displaying as version 1.6/T22m in the Update Menu. I've tried both of the DLP's HDMI ports, as well as 2 sets of cables, *BUT* the cables were both freebies - one came with Time Warner's HD-DVR, the other with Samsung's HD960...
Got the Toshiba HD-XA2 from Amazon today. I downloaded what I assume to be all the updated firmware via ethernet (the machine displayed 36 downloads in progress), and am running thru HDMI into a Samsung DLP HL-S5087W. I spent quite some time calibrating with the HD and SD versions of Digital...
How is the zoom on the SXRD? does it crop off the sides of the image at all? And will it still work with HDMI-delivered content? It turns out the Samsung *does* have 'Zoom 1' and 'Zoom 2' settings, but they're not selectable in HDMI 1 or 2...
The Toshiba HD-A20 is my most likely purchase, as I want HD and hear great things about the upconversion. Apparently the unit doesn't have a 'zoom' function for 4:3 letterbox DVDs, which coupled with the Samsung DLP's lack of same (it only 'stretch-zooms'), may be another reason to look...
Oh, and Sean - actually it was your comment on the other thread that I was alluding to in the first place, so you're in the unusual position of confirming your own assertion! Can anyone else weigh in, yay or nay?
They don't even see it, trust me. And I've pointed it out. They've basically acted as guinea pigs for my eventual purchase, and they're ok with that. ;)
Steered my parents to buy a Samsung DLP HL-S5087W. Having now spent some time with the unit, I find I have no problem with the lamp-based DLP technology. The Rainbow Effect is there, but I'm used to it and it's not an issue. I like the TV just fine otherwise. That is, if it weren't for the...
Wow - thanks for all the info. Some of it I'm clueless on just now (LiL, FIOS), but it's appreciated. What I'm gathering, however, is that for a die-hard movie fan (i.e. me), DISH may be my best bet. I'm certainly not going to be watching any sports, and general tv programming (documentaries...
