    WISEGUY release from VEI

I was comparing the 95 minute Studioworks version of the pilot to the VEI 2-part version, and it looks like Part 1 ends when the cops pull over Vinnie and Tony Greco, and a stenciled “To Be Continued” appears, followed by a new end credits sequence that’s different from the extended version...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

Yes, those are the volume “titles” that each was released under between 2003-2005. Ventura Distribution owned the Studioworks Entertainment DVD label.

    WISEGUY release from VEI

Thanks, I had forgotten about “Hit the Road, Jack”! You are correct, the Studioworks volume had the pilot in its original format, running about 95 minutes. The liner notes incorrectly state that it’s in 2 parts.

    WISEGUY release from VEI

To have the most complete home video version, you are correct. It’s the VEI set combined with a Studioworks or Mill Creek copy of “No One Gets Out of Here Alive”. From a PQ standpoint, all 3 releases are roughly the same (likely using the same transfers that Cannell Productions provided, music...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

A few more observations about the new VEI set: Season 3, Episode 7 (“People Do It All the Time”) is included in this set. It was previously included in the Studioworks set as a bonus episode, however it was NOT included in the Mill Creek 67-episode set for reasons unknown. Therefore, this VEI...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

I think it’s worth it as well in order to have all of the episodes finally, after almost 20 years of DVD releases excluding Dead Dog. Save the Steelgrave episode though from the prior set! I’m guessing that they spent the extra money on the Dead Dog songs at the expense of “Good Lovin”. (I...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

My WISEGUY set from VEI arrived today. Here are my initial observations based upon a brief glance at a few of the discs: “Good Lovin’ ” is now gone (was featured in the previous DVD releases), and that whole jukebox music scene has been removed from the song’s start up to the song’s end...

    Complete Series Photos!

I have that HAWAII 5-O Complete Series collectors set, and it is truly a gorgeous set! I think it’s out of print now.

    WISEGUY release from VEI

The VEI set has an Amazon listing (currently showing as unavailable) that mentions the Dead Dog Records arc is included, and features rear box art. VEI has also updated their website listing to specifically mention that it includes Dead Dog. Now the question is will it have “Nights in White...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

One last bit of news for now: FilmRise, who currently has streaming rights to the Cannell library, has the Dead Dog Records arc included on their Wiseguy channel on YouTube. They added them back in November apparently. Here’s the link to the “Dead Dog Lives” episode: Unfortunately, their...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

One other peculiar item on the webpage: it lists a total running time of 73 hours and 23 minutes. This is very specific, but doesn’t make a lot of sense in hindsight. There were 75 episodes produced (technically 73, as the pilot and the season 4 premiere were originally telecast as 2-hour...

    WISEGUY release from VEI

I’m happy to be the canary in the coal mine on this one, though if VEI ends up being wrong, it’ll be the last thing I ever buy from them. It‘s shipping from Canada, so I did standard rate (the prices for 2-day and 1-day were more than the set cost), so I have no clue when to expect it to arrive.

    TV on DVD news roundup

I started a new thread about the WISEGUY release. Based on what I was told by a VEI customer service rep, this release will have all 75 episodes and restored music (no specifics on which songs).

    WISEGUY release from VEI

VEI’s upcoming WISEGUY DVD release mentions on their website and their email blasts that it includes all 75 episodes. Given that previous releases dating back almost 20 years had music replacement and were missing the “Dead Dog Records” storyline, I was rather skeptical of this announcement...
