    I dunno...it wouldn't the first 50's European film that everyone shows in 4:3 when it's clearly open matte - Diabolique is an example. I don't think those links are proof really.

    My panasonic had a 16;9 zoom suitable for blus, but that's tricky for one European title I have which is shot for 1.66:1 - and of course, the subs got cut off.

    How does one get an open matte blu-ray to play widescreen on a 16:9 TV? Changing the player output to 4:3 puts big black bars at the top and bottom of the image, and if I leave the player output on 16:9, the TV's zooms distort the picture.

    thanks! What did projectionists do with cases like these - just stick it on 1.85:1 and hope for the best, or dig out the old plates?
