Thanks for the replies! I found it local for $1999 which seems just right. These are hard sets to find! FWIW These were some of my considerations on eliminating the other options. Sony - They seem to be having a little flicker issue I'm not willing to gamble on right now (CRT issue)...
I've just returned from BestBuy where I took a look at the 48" Mits. I think I'm fully leaning toward the Pioneer. It'd be helpful to hear some Pioneer owners experiences before I make the final decision.
I was just checking out the very same thing. The model is "PDP4290 42" Plasma EDTV Monitor." The site seems to be up : http://www.akaiusa.com/products/pdp4290.htm
I find myself back in the shopping arena after a mixed experience with a previous model television. They have offered a buy back and I'm now back in the market. I'm a picky consumer with a limited budget (really not a good combination). I've decided I can eek out about $2300 (after tax) and am...
Here is what I've found so far regarding overlays...

I'm wondering how difficult it is to have it printed on plastic sheet? I'm going to explore the possibility!
Jack, the light issue, which took 3 visits from the tech, seems to have been related to a faulty board. First thought was light reflecting back into the crt's but when the technician examined the projection of the crt's directly on paper and he could verify the line. Next thought was the crt's...
After re-evaluating I actually think this is a convergence issue. The technician had to redo the convergence after replacing the board in the chassis. I opened up the grid and it seemed okay but after taking a second look and fiddling a bit I think (I'm sure) this is the problem.
As for...
I don't believe it's a convergence issue. The fine convergence has been adjusted. It's a horizontal line approximately 1/4 inch where the image is stretched. This line lives about 8 inches up from the bottom of the screen. If you watch the credits of a movie scroll up they have a nice looking...
My poor panny, just born and suffering so many problems. 2 months in I discovered a faint area of lightness in the picture that was very intrusive. After 3 visits of the tech the problem has been minimized but now I have a new blemish. About 1/4 up from the bottom of the set is an area that...
Mine too was just slightly off but the solution for me was easier than not. I pushed on the frame of the set and noticed it has a little give. Apparently when the handlers had dropped the set off they had pushed the screen frame out of alignment. When I pushed (gently of course!) the frame back...
Gregg, Everything seems to be nicely squared off. The area of heightened brightness(?) does at times appear as a distortion of the image but I'm not convinced that it isn't just a trick of the eyes as the whites seem brighter within that uniform 1" horizontal band. AVIA's cross patterns seem...
I just purchased a progressive player to go with my set and have noticed a horizontal band of brighter display area, approximately 1" tall, just above the middle of the screen. If the image is still or panning from side to side this is essentially undetectable. When a scene pans up or down...
On this issue I think it comes down to what one pursues as essential material. Cable comes in a little fuzzy, and, in my area, doesn't have 5.1 sound so overall I don't mind stretching the material. This is primarily because it didn't look all that great to begin with. When I really get serious...
