FWIW. my Overture 3s still anchor the living room stereo-only system, and the IL60s and IL36c still pull home theater duty. The former have been in constant use for 17 years and the ILs for 13 years, No changes in sight. A lottery win would get me some nice Revels, though.
Thanks for the link, Gene. My IL60s have worked perfectly for almost 13 years now, but one never knows when that one little resistor might fail. I'm collecting all the info I can for that inevitable rainy day. I don't want to ever need to replace these treasures.
Probably the best subwoofer tester of all time has left us prematurely. Tom's rigorous scientific approach to high fidelity measurements and the conclusions drawn from them alienated him from many in the "Audiophile" community. That is of no consequence. The body of his work remains as a...
My mother was a classically trained pianist who inexplicably never, ever played at home; and my dad seemed to have no interest in music whatsoever. When I was 10 in 1958, I asked for a record player for Christmas. What music I could pilfer from others and joining the school band established my...
My 7.1 setup is very similar to yours. I run the sides bipole, and they are wall mounted at 6'. The rears are direct radiators against the rear wall 1' in from the corners at 7'. And they are 5' behind the listening position. Very, very happy with the results. Since the advent of DD, et al, I...
Let's all hope that when Chris and Ron finally get around to viewing this film that they will become Formula One converts. Earth: Formula One and soccer. USA: NASCAR and football. Go figure.
Wasn't sure I would be prepared for onslaught of drama, tension, and effects that early reviewers have remarked about. I needn't have worried. "Gravity" is spellbinding cinema. The 3D effects were well implemented. Especially when her face is refracted in one of her tears floating in the cabin...
Actually this makes my MTT cycle complete. I have them all. I think it is his best work in the cycle. The others seem too slick and smooth at times although the playing is flawless, and the sound is superb. My other 8s are the Solti/Chicago on LP, Abbado/Berlin on DG CD, and Nagano/German...
I vividly remember running into him (or at least passing by him) literally one evening on a downtown street in San Francisco. This was in 1973 or so when I was stationed there. Obviously he was there working on his hit series "Streets of San Francisco" with co-star Michael Douglas. I remember...
