    Best Media Streamer?

Hi Joe, Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, due to my basic computer knowledge, much of what you said went over my head. I ripped a massive number of CDs before I became interested in streaming, not realising WAV is incompatible.

    Best Media Streamer?

Hi there folks. Media streaming is a fairly new concept to me, but something I'm surprised isn't taking over the world right now. Wouldn't everyone (if they knew how) like to play anything from their computer on their living room AV system? Especially, as most of us have our music stored on our...

    LED Technologies

These are the different types of LED TVs: White edge-lit. White local-dimming. White RGB local-dimming (Red/Green/Blue). The best LCD made thus far is Sony's RGB local-dimming XBR8 aka XBR4500 aka XBR45. The TV may not look as cool, because it can't be as thin as an edge-lit. As it was too...

Sony XBR10 - Is Sony done with local-dimming, Tri-Luminous LED TVs?

It matters because most of the time, I just want to turn on the TV and watch it. As I have no interest in wall mounting, does it really matter how thin it is? I find TVs look more stylish with their stand on a nice cabinet anyway. Sony's XBR10 and Samsung's latest thin LED LCDs are a good...

    Blu-ray with built-in Internet Browser?

I think the closest thing to what you're after would be the PS3. I think LG and Samsung players would offer the next best thing. I don't think you can surf with them, but you can wirelessly stream just about everything else from your computer. Other than that I'd like to know myself. I'm sick...

Sony XBR10 - Is Sony done with local-dimming, Tri-Luminous LED TVs?

I'm hoping to get some clarification. The XBR10 is an edge-lit, white LED, 1080P wireless TV. Is it the official replacement of the XBR8? If so, it would confirm that Sony has abandoned its local-dimming, Tri-Luminous, LED technology. If this is the next generation of Sony's top-of-the line...

    Batman (1989) - Any UK Blu-Ray reviews?

I'm in Melbourne, Australia. Every time I browse for Blu-rays and check the back of each case, NEVER have I seen special features in PAL. So it looks like we all get the same stuff, folks. It's nice to see there's finally a universal format. If only they ended the region coding BS.

More Than A Few Words About the New Panasonic DMP-BD35

Thanks Dave. The ONLY thing holding me back from a BD35 is I hear there's no subtitle button on the remote. As I like to flick the subtitles on and off very often, that's a serious bummer.

What happened to 'Sin City' on Blu-Ray?

No-one seems to be answering the original question. What DID happen to Sin City? How could Canada get it before the US? I'm finding the international Blu-ray releases a little weird. We've had the Kill Bills and Crimson Tide on Blu-ray for a while now. Kill Bill - Volume 1 (Blu-ray) @...

More Than A Few Words About the New Panasonic DMP-BD35

Compelling review, Robert. It makes this player very tempting. So you genuinely believe the Panasonic has better color reproduction than the PS3? Would you say the color is more accurate on the Panasonic (realistic skin tones, etc)? Normally, Sony excels in this area. Any chance of seeing...

Are there any BD players that do an excellent job of upconverting SD?

Amen Sanjay! I don't think manufacturers realise how vital a subtitle button is in day to day DVD/Blu-ray viewing.

Are there any BD players that do an excellent job of upconverting SD?

For me, no subtitle button is a deal breaker. Every time I watch a DVD, they'll be a moment of unintelligible dialogue, so I'll quickly rewind, switch on the subtitles, re-watch the moment, then switch them off and continue the movie. I used to have the Sony 7000. I loved that remote...

Why does Sony so often drag its feet?

I'm seeing here a lot of Sony fans trying to rationalize Sony's laziness. Their DVD players have these features. Sony just dragged their feet adding them, and I'm sure they'll EVENTUALLY be added to their Blu-ray range. Price points? Have one model with and one without (like their DVD range)...

Why does Sony so often drag its feet?

My frustration comes because I actually love Sony video products. I have a Sony TV and DVD player. I want a Sony Blu-ray player, but I hate the idea of losing features with a new purchase. I don't understand why Sony's players can't have these features while the Panasonics can. I'd consider...
