Any film that was shot on certain Eastman stocks between 1954 and 1960 (and especially 1959 and 1960) runs the risk of yellow layer failure on the negative according to one of Robert's old Yellow Layer Failure columns at the Digital Bits. So I think it's not just westerns.
Edit: never mind, I...
In this interview with Ned Price that you did in 2006, Ned Price says that they did not have the technology to fix the yellow layer of the negative. Is that technology available now so that the negative can be used for a new transfer?
One of the first dvd's I bought (a little over 20 years ago I see in my Amazon history). Snapper case, flipper, non-anamorphic NTSC. Talk about mediocre. And I still enjoyed it. We've become the spoiled bunch with all the technological developments in HT.
Just checked the German BD but the English mono sound in the opening credits is in sync there. Credits get properly shot down. I'm pretty sure the sound in the opening credits was in sync on the MGM disc as well.
On the Kino disc the gun shots, being out of sync, do not make sense anymore.
I have to say I'm impressed by TT's dedication to customer satisfaction. They checked my complaint with their authoring facility. It seems I was wrong in assuming the authoring facility made a mistake with the video encode. The authoring facility affirmed that the video was encoded in YCbCr...
My favourite scene of The Wild Bunch is when they leave the village while La Golondrina is being played/sung:
I hope we'll get a new release this year. And while they're at it I hope Warner will finally release Pat Garret as well.
Watched this disc for the first time last night. It is certainly an improvement over the German disc. A minor quibble: someone made a mistake with the sound in the opening credits. It's out of sync with what's happening on screen. I always found the opening credits of FAFDM very funny because...
Seems I'm not the only one who noticed something wrong with TT's disc. Glenn Erickson's review of Warlock: https://trailersfromhell.com/warlock-1959/
He notices: ""The negative for this show may have faded. The image is sharp and stable, but colors are not ideal and the contrast is consistently...
I can remember a few older Arrow releases having the problem but other than that not many. It is an error that should be caught by QC.
Anyway, I contacted Twilight Time and they responded that they were sorry to hear about my complaint about the transfer and that I was the only one who had...
Watched the TT Warlock disc tonight and I think there's a problem with it. The video seems to be encoded at RGB PC levels instead of YCbCr. As a result the picture will look washed out/faded. I changed the HDMI output of my Oppo to RGB PC and everything looked alright with proper black level but...
You actually reviewed it when it came out: link To sum up your conclusion then: "While I enjoyed seeing The Longest Day on Blu-Ray, I was unable to recognize it as film. There was no look of the cinema, except for some occasional white vertical scratches that remain." and "Facial tonalities as...
Today is the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. It would have been the perfect time for Fox to commemorate this day with a 4K remastered release of this movie. Instead we're still stuck with the original abomination. This movie deserves better.
