You're probably going to have to sell it separately. Sorry to say but I can't imagine anybody will be interested in buying a cassette player, cd changer, or Prologic processor these days. The speakers and amps on the other hand you'll probably get something for on eBay.
You guys forgot Wesley Crusher who would mod one of those Panasonic digital recievers to run directly off of dilythium crystals. Spock would in fact be tooting a new technology that mind-melds music directly into your brain making everything else obsolete.
I've mostly got my system complete: B&K Ref 50 PS Audio HCA-2 Main Speakers: Silverline Audio SR-15 Rear Speakers: Dynaudio Audience 40 (no center, no sub) I'll be getting another HCA-2 to drive the rear channels (they're currently not powered). I'm only running a 4 channel system...
With so much talk about the Panasonic SA-XR50 (digital reciever/amp) these days I think it would be worth a try. It's well within your budget and supposed to sound very nice. The XR70 is coming out soon and will probably still be under your budget.
Color aside, what I really miss are nice feeling volume knobs, and "clunky" source switchers. Old Sony stereo recievers had heavy feeling knobs with ball bearings. It always felt real nice to tune into FM stations, or fling the wheel from side to side (this was when I was a kid). Even on fairly...
First gotta cover the basics: are you sure the receiver is locking onto a DD or DTS signal from the DVD player? The display should read "Dolby D 5" or "DTS 5". If it says "Dolby D 2" then your speaker settings on the DVD input are not correct. As a test you could swap inputs - connect the DVD...
You can't fault the dealer. He did get his money back, and now has the opportunity to take his business elsewhere and buy an amp that is not (literally) one inch from frying at all times.
If you're willing to buy used you can probably find the Ref 50 and AV125.5 for under $2000. The AVR-507 is essentially those two pieces in one box, but having the separates will allow you to upgrade one or the other down the road.
Chip E, I sent my B&K Ref 50 back to the factory to get the digital cable bug (loud clicks) fixed. I just got mine back last night but didn't have enough time to hook it up to make it fixes the problem, will do that tonight. It only took 1 week for B&K to ship it back to me.
Well, I think you should completely forget about buying that receiver/amplifier regardless of how good it sounded. There are definitely other options that won't have this problem and will sound just as good. How many recievers did you audition?
Very interesting. And article I read about DD+ says it's intended at the moment for OTA broadcasts at a lower bit-rate than DD5.1. I hope if HD-DVD goes this way they bump up the bitrates higher than DD5.1 is. It seems pointless to me to lower the fidelity of the 5 channels in order to...
