I'd say it's somewhere right in the middle between god-awful and the best movie of the year. At that price, it's worth buying and deciding for yourself.
Verizon just replaced my 6+ due to very similar behavior. The phone wasn't exhibiting any symptoms when I took it in but they didn't question it. I got the impression that they've seen this problem before.

"Lossless" audio has nothing to do with bit-rate but rather it has to do with the way the audio data is compressed. Formats like mp3 and DD actually selectively discard audio information (frequencies) to compress the data size. Once that information is lost, it can never be regained.

I've noticed this with my iPhone 5 when I'm out in my yard. My house has steel siding and the wi-fi signal outside the house is quite weak. I don't know if I've experienced it yet with my 6+ or not.
