    Viable alternatives to DirecTV?

I've been with DirecTV for many years, but their prices just keep climbing. I call them about once a year and threaten to cancel, and then they will lower the price and give me a "12 month price". Interestingly, after only a few months, this 'guaranteed' price typically starts increasing again...

Please help me find replacement subs for old Realistic floor speakers

Thanks Wayne, the re-foam idea is probably the way to go. The speakers are Optimus T-200's. They worked really good for a lot of years and are all I'll ever need or use. I found a re-foam kit on eBay, so I'll try that. Many thanks!!!!! Dave F.

Please help me find replacement subs for old Realistic floor speakers

I have two 35-year old Realistic floor speakers. They still look good and basically work fine. But the subs (four total) are all blown out from age & abuse. I am trying to find replacements, but since I'm not an audiophile, I hesitate to order replacement speakers without some advice from...

Do heights of fronts & center speakers need to be identical?

Regarding the fronts (left and right), plus the center speaker. Should they all be the same general height? Currently I have the center speaker down kinda low, the sub is on the floor, and all the other speakers (fronts and satellites) are up near the ceiling. Just curious about how much...

Good idea. I am using the crossover filter that is built into my main A/V receiver. I will try this. Thanks -

Advice on replacing/upgrading subwoofer speaker in existing housing??

"Rattling" was the wrong word. The bass is pronounced and strong with no clipping or distortion at the levels I listen to. It is, however, a tad boomy. But I am starting to read up on this stuff and I am gonna experiment with my crossover settings and all the other speaker adjustments. There...

Advice on replacing/upgrading subwoofer speaker in existing housing??

If you plug the port, what would you expect as a result? And why do you call this a passive sub? It is rattling my house now, even with a moderate WM speaker............ thanks

Advice on replacing/upgrading subwoofer speaker in existing housing??

Robert, Many thanks for the info. There is a switched outlet on the back of my main receiver, and I have the spare receiver plugged into that, so both receivers turn on with one button press. I ended up buying a $70 12" automotive subwoofer at WalMart and installed that into my...

Advice on replacing/upgrading subwoofer speaker in existing housing??

Greetings, The subwoofer in my existing setup breaks down (probably not the exact proper word) during hard bass hits (like cannon and explosion sequences). I want to upgrade the subwoofer speaker itself to better handle these events. The subwoofer is an aging Optimus Pro SW-12 and it appears...
