Keep the old TV! You've already got a very nice TV and if you don't watch many movies or broadcast I personally would spend the money on something else I'd enjoy more. My projector is the first 'tv' I've bought since my other one in 1993. I don't know what it is with those 1080 big plasma...
Subwoofers, component, and composite audio/video all use RCA connections. Whether the wires themselves are different I don't know. I'd wait until you get your equipment before buying them. They usually come with little cards that tell you which connection is best, or it's in the user manual.
So far I don't notice any distraction from the door. Eventually I'm going to replace all the doors in the house with fancy panel wood doors and when I do I'm going to make sure to paint the outside and stain the inside a dark color to match my bookcase. Too bad, I was looking for an excuse to...
Check out projectorcentral.com. There is a calculator there that uses your projector specs to help you calculate it. That's what I used and it was right on!
My screen is along the short wall, the 10' wall, with a door next to it. If this helps here is how my setup is (going to) look. projector mislabeled, the red square above the sofa is the projector Let me know what sound system you end up with and how it sounds. I'm looking at HTIBs...
The outer braces are just small triangles. They don't need to be very strong. I mounted my picture hanger mounts (big long ones with the teeth) on the actual screen braces, where all the strength is. There is no weight on the outer frame at all, so I just put a few screws in each mini-brace...
This is my room size, although my HT isn't complete. Seating will be along the short wall so I can get a full 12' of distance between the seating and the projector. I don't think I could get more than 1 row of seating. It looks great from that distance but I'm only using a 70" screen. I've got a...
I think dealing with best buy corporate is your only option. You might want to copy your letter over to any consumer protection agencies that your country has, and inform best buy that you have done so. The general manager can only replace your product at his store's expense, and I doubt he is...
Just made our screen this weekend! Here's a photo of it on the wall. It's got a curtain rod over it and I'm going to put curtains up to hide the screen when not in use. This was made with 1x4 pine with a simple border and braces on each corner. The screen is a solid piece of white...
Star Wars, you are buying premium compared to my budget! I've found several 5.1 systems in the local classifieds in working condition for under $100. Building the screen and projector mount is going to save me a ton of money. I've already bought the material (Joannes blackout fabric for $15)...
