UHD Review Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country UHD Review

Basically what Josh said. I'm not sure when that term came into popular use, but of course the concept has been around for a while. :)

UHD Review Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country UHD Review

Thanks for the review, Neil. This fan actually prefers the theatrical cut, but like you, I'm glad they're finally both included in the same release. My opinion on this one has gone up and down over the years. There are some scenes that haven't aged all that well, but I do think most of the...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ Platoon -- in 4k UHD Blu-ray

Haven't seen the Shout Blu or 4K, but I think I read that Oliver Stone supervised the 4K remastering, so presumably he's the one who wanted it this way. Shout has had their hiccups, but I don't think this one is their fault. They probably had to use what was given to them by the licensor.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ Who Framed Roger Rabbit -- in 4k UHD

The phone number thing was apparently just a rumor. There are scanned images from a 35mm print floating around that have no phone number there. I guess it's possible that it was on the very earliest prints, but there's probably no way to tell for sure at this point.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ Who Framed Roger Rabbit -- in 4k UHD

I guess the UHD. It certainly is the most faithful-looking home release. The cranked-up gamma from the first Blu-ray is gone, and even though the VFX shots have some grain management applied, it's not too bad. The Atmos track is a bit near-fielded, but it's carefully done and sounds pretty good...

Press Release WHV Press Release: Casablanca (1942) (4k UHD Combo)

Is it? He looks a bit younger, his hair is styled differently, and he never wore a black tux in Casablanca. I hate complaining about this sort of thing, but with so many iconic shots of Bogart from the movie itself to choose from, some random PR still is just a really odd decision. EDIT: I...

Press Release WHV Press Release: Casablanca (1942) (4k UHD Combo)

I really don't understand the cover art design strategy at WB right now. It's like they're going out of their way to make these iconic films look as bland and uninteresting as possible, even going so far as to make the focal point of CASABLANCA's cover a photo of Bogart from some other movie...

Pre-Order R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Not particularly interested in this one, but I love that Universal is still making Bring It On movies and sequels to out-and-out flops, while Warner Bros. is shutting down nearly-completed installments in major blockbuster franchises.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ STAR TREK: The Original Motion Picture 6-Movie Collection -- in 4k UHD Blu-ray

The new theatrical/SLV UHD in the box 'o junk edition of TMP has player-generated subtitles for the Klingon and Vulcan scenes, but they are in the original font and placement onscreen. The Director's Edition UHD, also (though in a different font). I haven't received my copy of VI yet, but I...

Press Release PHE Press Release: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Restored Director's Edition and Six-Movie Collection (4k UHD)

I find the Director's Edition to be better paced than the theatrical, despite being a few minutes longer. But yeah, in the grand scheme of things, it's not massively different in terms of the overall impact. I'm usually not a fan of revisionist filmmaking, but sort of like Blade Runner, the...

Pre-Order PHE Press Release: Top Gun Maverick (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not a huge fan of shifting aspect ratios myself. It's not a deal-breaker, and if it's the director's preference, then fine. But I find it kind of distracting on anything but an actual IMAX screen. And with most IMAX screens having a ratio of 1.90 these days...

PSYCHO UNCUT - exactly what is different?

I guess it's also true that information wasn't disseminated as quickly as it is now. You couldn't go watch that trailer on YouTube or anything, and even if you had, the actual visceral shock of the shower scene wasn't completely given away (much less the identity of the killer). And Hedda...

Press Release USHE Press Release: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 40th Anniversary (4k UHD Combo)

I imagine it'll be the same DTS:X track that was on the initial UHD, though it's interesting that it will apparently now be included on the standard Blu, too. I'm just glad they're keeping the DTS 2.0 rendering of the original stereo on there, as well. The DTS:X track (and 7.1 on the initial...

PSYCHO UNCUT - exactly what is different?

Here's a page from the June 25, 1960 issue of The Tablet, a Catholic newspaper in Brooklyn. PSYCHO is listed with the films rated "B."
