I've got a Series 2 Tivo and VCR I use alot. That, along with the fact that I've got some vision problems that apparently don't allow me to see the full benefit of HD would probably steer me to a SD CRT model if my set dies. The only problem is that I don't think you can even buy one of those...
Is there a particular brand or type of LCD TV that does a better job of displaying standard def content than others?
I'd also like to know of all widescreen lcd tvs have the ability to show standard def content without it being stretched and distorted? Are there menu settings to allow that on...
I thought the difference was usually more than $5. Recent news stories seem to show what the choice will be in the future. I've got time to wait until the prices even out, unless my standard def. TV blows up. LOL Thanks, BGC
Well, I burned a +R DL disc and set the booktype to DVD-Rom and it seems to play properly in the Pan CP72. I don't understand why commercially pressed discs show up as DVD-Rom or if there is an actual DVD-Rom disc that is physically different. Anyway, the discussion of will they or won't they...
I'm not sure why they show up that way, but they do. I suppose I need one that will play the RW discs + and -. I'll have to do a test to see if the one I have will read a +R with booktype changed. BGC
That may be what they mean, but changing the booktype setting to DVD-Rom is supposed to make +r/rw media more compatible. Also, the commercial pressed discs that movies come on show up in the disc info tool as DVD-Rom. BGC
Hi, Which brands of standalone players have the best compatibility with DVD recordable formats (+r, +rw, -rw, DVD-Rom). My Pan. CP72 manual says it won't play DVD-Rom, but I checked a few of my commercial DVDs and they all have a booktype of DVD-Rom so I don't get why it says it won't play...
Anyone know which recordable formats will play in a CP72? I know some of the recorders let you change some flag to make one type of disc look like another for greater compatibility but I'm not sure what that's called. I'm also interested to know if the Dual Layer discs will play (+R or -R)...
Which would you choose and why? I'm leaning to the Onkyo due to the 1 year parts & LABOR warranty and the fact that you can buy a 2 year extended warranty directly from Onkyo for $30. So I'm looking at a refurb witha 90 day parts and labor warranty vs. a New unit with a 3 year parts and labor...
Do the Denon DVD players use the same parts as Panasonic players? I thought I saw mention of that but don't remember what models it was referring to. thanks, BGC
