i picked up the 42" panny EDTV this weekend and am very happy with it. i have noticed that one of the HD channels (HDNet) becomes pixelated during scene transitions alot...and i think it's due to the processing/conversion time from the panny...but the image and all other channels look GREAT...
the sony lcd just didn't have the PQ i wanted. i almost wonder if it was a bad unit...since so many others rave about it. i found that dvd looked ok...HDTV was very good...but broadcast (digital cable) was TERRIBLE. my viewing position is ~9 feet. that may be part of the problem. the PQ was very...
i'll give the DLP another look at the store...the lcd sony just gave me a bad experience so i'm hesitant to try that type again. i'll also check out the panny plasma in person. sounds like it's pretty unanimous that it's the way to go if plasma is the choice. thanks!
i posted a while back that i had purchased a 42" sony lcd rear projection and ended up returning it due to being disappointed with the dvd and broadcast quality. i'm still stuck with requirements that it must be light (no more 250+ lb tv's for me!). i noticed that one of the lower cost EDTV...
i was going to jump on the $4300 panny plasma from dell...but hesitated out of fear (horror stories about reliability of plasma, the decrease in brightness over time, etc). i am sure most of the bad stories are exceptions and not the standard experience...but i figured LCD was the way to go in...
well...i went with the 42" sony LCD yesterday. i returned it today due to being so disappointed. :frowning: problems i had were with the quality of the broadcast (digital cable, including hbo, cinemax, etc) and disappointing dvd quality. i used the same cables from my old tv (36" panny...
i sold my primary tv (36" panny hd tau) for one reason: i was tired of dealing with its weight when moving. so, i'm off to my dealer tomorrow to pick up something LIGHT. :) i have looked at the usual LCD and DLP projection units (front projection is not an option yet) and...
thank you for the suggestions! i have tried to push a front projector on him...but he hasn't warmed up to that idea. the room is fairly large and would be great for it. keep those suggestions coming! :)
A friend has asked me to help him pick out a new projection tv. He is upgrading from a 47" GE 4:3 unit. He wants to stay at $2500 or under. His viewing habits are 80% satellite/cable tv...20% dvd. He wants the largest screen available, and i would say is very flexible with quality vs...
JaimelM-
can you elaborate on that? he was asking for assistance with his new tv...not a thread cr@p.
are there specific problems he should be aware of? i own a 36HX41E as well...it has issues (haven't begun to calibrate it yet), but for the cost it is a decent unit ($1500).

yes, the SF-2's are serving me well...they have a very good sound for the size of the speaker. $699?!? ugh. i got my pair for $440 or something last year!
as stated above, the RF-3's would be superior, but they are larger. i hope to move up to the RF-7's someday when i have tons of room for...
you mentioned having floorstanding speakers...so i would encourage you to audition a few different models of the klipsch floorstanding speakers. i thought about getting bookshelf speakers...but then tried the SF-1 and SF-2's (klipsch)...and the SF-2's were MUCH better sounding. they are...
Thank you for the information. I can live with most of the problems...just wanted to make sure it wasn't a lemon. If it's a limitation of the technology...then that's just the way it is! :frowning:
Since it is "only" a $1500 tv...I didn't know if doing the ISF route on it is worth it. Do you...
one additional thing i noticed: when watching 16:9 movies...the black bars are not symetrical...the bottom bar is not even all the way across...appearing slanted and approx 3.5" high on the left and 4.0" on the right.
i picked up (figuratively and literally) a panasonic tau 36" hdtv last weekend and after watching it a bit...have started to notice problems with it.
(i was originally supposed to have the 40" XBR delivered---that didn't happen...long story for another post!)
SO, i have noticed the...
