Today Milton Bradley was suspended by the Cubs for the rest of the season for conduct detrimental to the team. It was Jim Hendry's first good move of the year. It will be interesting to see if the MLBPA files a grievance on behalf of Bradley. What a disaster this season has been... - Soriano...

Still true...going on a month and 3 days! I'd love to know if this is an all-time record. That is, has a division leader ever not lost ground to the second place team for as long a streak as the Cardinals currently have? (32 games and counting.) Maybe I'll check the '69 Mets, who caught and...

As the Cubs have been realistically eliminated from the division chase (10 behind the Cards), hope turns to the wild card. However, it is difficult to assess their chances for that because while they are 5.5 games back (4 in the loss column), they are also behind four other teams. I've seen...

Okay, here's something remarkable -- and depressing if you are a Cubs fan: Since August 3, 26 days ago, the Cubs have not gained an inch of ground in the standings on any day. They have either stayed the same or fallen further behind every single day since August 3.

Even as a Cubs fan, I tip my hat to Buerhle. Remarkable performance considering that for the most part he pitches to contact, and the White Sox are horrible fielders (they even had some of the B team out there today). The Wise catch was unreal. Some interesting coincidences/notes: Eric...

    Tom Watson...almost

What heartbreak -- not just for Tom, of course, but for all of us who invested 6+ hours today watching and hoping he could hang on.

What Will Be Living on Earth 5000 Years From Now?

Yes, even things we take for granted such as eyeglasses are probably delaying or even nullifying evolution of human eyesight...though one could argue that medical advancements are taking human eyesight further, faster than evolution would have. Edited by Brian Perry - 7/20/2009 at 03:36 am GMT

You're right...a more plausible scenario would be that the runners on 1st and 2nd were doubled (and tripled) off after leaving too early on a fly ball they didn't think would be caught. Switching gears to today's game...it will be interesting to see what happens with Milton Bradley. He was...

So how about this... Bases loaded, nobody out. Batter flies out and all runners attempt to tag up. The runners at first and second are thrown out, with the third out occurring after the runner on third scores. I assume the batter would get an RBI, even though he hit into a triple play?

It makes sense to me (that there is no RBI), as choosing the double play over trying to throw a guy out at home could be considered a fielder's choice. I haven't heard of the ground rule triple...unless that is what it's called when a fielder throws his mitt at the ball?

And it was probably the most disappointing season from a Cubs' fan standpoint, even more devastating than 2003. Speaking of devastating, another Kerry Wood implosion today. Not signing Wood looks to be the only good move our GM made. Baseball is so unpredictable. In the 12th the Indians...

After the Cubs' second straight absolute MIRACLE win today, I predict: 1. The Indians' season is toast...today is the season's second blown 7-0 lead and Kerry Wood sucks. 2. The Cubs WILL WIN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE!!!

Milton Bradley continues to be one of the worst signings ever. Can't hit worth a lick, multiple injuries again this year (what a surprise), baserunning blunders, hostility to fans and media, and today's piece de resistance: with one out, he catches a fly ball, strikes a ridiculous pose, and then...
