I have had a tempest (got one in the garage right now) in a ported box. With the right power and EQ, the tumult will definitely outperform in the sealed box. Without EQ, not sure if it will hang for HT with a good ported tempest design. For me, there just is not enough good strong low end...
Thanks! I am running (16) 10's inthe suburban right now. MAn is it nice. . . I am actualy running (4) Avalanche 15's in the HT right now and it kills the (2) Tumults. Tumults were really nice, but they are expensive. I have no experience with the Adire amps. I would assume they are...
I have used both in home and car. The AVA 18 definitely sounds much better without any EQ. Does not have near the same bump in the freq. response around 60 Hz. If you have the 1803's in large ported enclosures, and you want to move to AVA 18's in small sealed enclosures, I would guess it is...
Are the sonotubes ported? Do you use an EQ? If the BP's are setup in large ported sonotubes with an EQ to flatten the response, the sealed AVA's are more than likely going to sound like a downgrade for HT. If they are both sealed without EQ in the same size enclosures, I would guess the...
I have four Avalanche 15's in my house. . Awesome subs!!! They replaced Tumults, and IMO are a better choice on a 1000 watt plate amp. If you are going to run 2000 watts per driver, better wait on the Tumult. . . Brian
Thanks. I designed the floor plan myself, so I included a 24" deep area in the front and rear of the room for built in cabinets, subs, and surrounds. Wife wanted the front mains in there too, but the wall just was not large enough when I decided to go with a 120" screen instead of a 100" screen...
I built the unlimiteds with the 9500 tweeter. Kit was $1500. I actually have mine about 6" from the back wall and think they sound great!!! I can hear a little better imaging when they are 4', but I am like you and just cannot have them 4' from the wall. My room is setup with (3) Rhythm's for...
I second the North Creek Rhythms. I have had mine about 4 years now, and I don't even think about other speakers. Well, maybe I experimented with a set of cheap line arrays, but they are gone. . . For $1000, the rhtyhm is a heck of a speaker. Brian
How will you wire the 9 drivers? I have my 12 wired from top to bottom in the (2 of 4)-3-2-3-(2 of 4) arrangement. There are 7 horns wired (2 of 4)-3-(2 of 4). My enclosure is tuned to 50 Hz. Use a sub below 50 Hz. . . Brian
My Cousin has those arrays. They were a fun project I just wanted to try. They can be built for $192.00. That included everything, even a new router bit for cuting all the holes. In my case, I actually picked up the 24 Panasonic 6.5" drivers for free, so they were only $120. They sounded ok...
That is why I did (4) 15's. Easy to get 2 ohms/ch, and I still only have two cabinets. (3) 18's is a stange configuration for most amps (unless you have multiple amps). How big is your room? Mine is pretty big. like 20' x 22' x 10' with two openings into the kitchen, and one opening into a...
Someone else asked this on the soundillusions forum. Three main reasons I did (4) 15's: 1. It maximized the power output of my amp. I could have (2) 18's at 1100 watts each, or (4) 15's with 850 watts each. 2. I like watching multiple drivers move 2" peak to peak. 3. Chad already had dual...
In the front of my room, there is a 28" deep "void" that I built into the room to allow a cabinet for my 36" TV that would be flush mounted with the wall. On each side of that cabinet, I made a 28" H x 21" W opening. The DVD came from across the ocean. . . . I am an Electrical Engineer. I...
