I'm going to theorize that the lack of rumor or noise around a 4K release of White Christmas means we will have to wait until next year, it's 70th anniversary. I guess that was always baked in the cake...at least I hope it's next year.

I hope, and expect, that is the case. My wife & I skipped it this year, a rare event, in hopes that it is released in 4K next year, though most likely it will be 2024.

I agree, given the number of other releases not as worthy of 4K UHD/HDR treatment-restoration, but I console myself that it is inevitable, probably 2024, though I hope for next year.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like this work could be used as a basis for a 4K UHD release without an unreasonable additional investment? If true, that would make it a bit more likely that we will see a 70th anniversary release in 2024. (fingers crossed).

I feel the same, but maybe in the next life we will see it in 30K! Heck, we can just get all of the original actors to do a live show!

Me too, but I have scoured the internet and cannot find either rumor or innuendo about it. They are releasing the B/W prequel, Holiday Inn, but not White Christmas, which would most benefit from UHD and HDR. While I am happy for any UHD release, it seems odd that this one has been left out. Oh...

Thank you for the clarification! I'll continue my vigil. I agree with you regarding the BD. I'm not sure the resolution improvement would be night & day, but I think HDR would be a significant benefit and the soundtrack could stand an upgrade.

My wife and I were very excited to watch this film, but came away less than satisfied regarding both the UHD quality and the film itself. We are very much fans of Edgar Wright, but we felt little empathy for the characters, and felt the whole thing a bit overwrought. I wish it were otherwise...

My bad. Thanks for moving it to the proper section and I appreciate the responses! I'm thinking that based on the 2010 blu-ray, the source material is in good shape, and since it was filmed in VistaVision it might make as good a candidate for a 4K release as any film from it's era. I guess...

Has anyone heard rumor of this? The Blu-ray looks great, but I think 4K would take it to another level.
