System sounds less powerful and crisp

If it is a power issue you would expect it to come and go. Try your system when he isn't home and see how it performs. Bob

got my new monitor 5's problems though :(

You may have already tried this, but put the left speaker on the right cable and vice-versa just to make sure that it is a speaker problem. Bob

What would cause a lip sync delay?

It's a known problem with DLP TVs. If your rcvr supportws audio delay you can pretty much make it go away. I have the same TV in 50 inch, and it is the only fault I have with the TV. Bob

    outlaw 1050

I have a 1050 and love it. It's a bit dated but if you can find a used one it would be a good buy. It has good power for most people and is well built. Bob

Stopping DVD purchases or upgrading dvd library to High Def.

I think that the big question is the cost. How quickly will they move down in price to be near the price of today's DVDs? Bob

How long before studios stop production on current DVDs?

DVDs will stay around a long time. It's a case of diminishing returns. DVD video and audio is much better then VHS, and pretty much everybody can see it. HD DVD is better then DVD, but it is not nearly as obvious. For many people DVD is good enough. Until the prices are the same, a lot of people...

    What's a good entry-level sub?

At that price range I would buy one of the Sonys. If you look around you can probably find them on sale somewhere. Keep it for a year or two until you can afford to upgrade to SVS or similar, and sell the Sony on ebay. That's what I did, and I ended up losing less then $100 after having it for...

Have you calibrated it with an SPL meter and a calibration disk? If not you should as this can make a big difference also. Bob

Here is a writeup on what I did. email me if you have any questions. Bob I recently finished installing a whole house audio system. It turned out great and I thought I would describe it and give some pointers. My system is based on the Russound CA-6.4i multi room controller. This system...

Receiver issue with calibration, or is this normal?

I would try a couple of things before returning it. -Leave the speaker wires conencted and put the right speaker where the left is and vice versa. Rerun the tests and see what happens (Now the right amp is running the same speaker, but it is on the left) -Disconnect the speaker cables and...

    Sony ES STR-DA1ES

Will it convert from composite to S-Video? My parents cable box only supports composite, and they would like to switch video through the receiver. They would hook up the DVD via S, Cable and VCR via composite, and hook the recvr to the TV via S. Thanks Bob

Replacing DVDs that have gone bad

Have you tried another DVD player? I thought that some disks were bad, but it turned out that my older player was starting to fail. It would play some disks and not others. My new player has no problems with the same disks. Bob
