Cheap Open Baffle, Full Range Driver DIY

So this is geared a bit less towards traditional home theater, and more DIY 2 channel music listening, but if you know anything about car audio, you may be of great assistance..... First let me say my initial goal was to build a decent pair of speakers for under/around $40. I have reasonable...

    DIY Cylindrical Enclosures

Hmmmmm yes very interesting. It would be nice to get an expert opinion. You bring up some thought provoking ideas tho. I suppose on an intuitive level the speaker may be more directional. I was originally just thinking from the standpoint that the volume of air in the box acts as a spring and no...

    DIY Cylindrical Enclosures

I may go that route as it seems more advisable. That being said, my curiosity still drives me to know more from a theory standpoint. What I proposed to build was not as complex as it sounds. Here's a rough cross section sketch. (the red would be the driver and dimensions are meaningless) I...

    DIY Cylindrical Enclosures

I've actually checked those designs out before. Certainly very inspirational. I guess my question was a bit vague. I really just want to know if there are any drawbacks to a cylindrical enclosure. In terms of building, It would not be very difficult (in some ways much easier) to use the stacking...

    DIY Cylindrical Enclosures

Sorry for the long post... So I was contemplating building a pair of floor-standing speakers and I looked at quite a few different designs. I considered going with the classic sealed, square box, but it seems that lately there's been a general movement towards ovular shaped towers in high-end...

    Sanyo SS240

Okay, so I know these speakers aren't anything to brag about as everything I have ever heard/read indicates that Sanyo never made a good pair of speakers. The SS240 speakers I acquired (and original amp) are just seemingly cheap laminated cabinets 26"x14"x9". The amp has the model number JA240...

    Windows Full Ranged Speaker

VLC. The software I am using is called Equalizer APO. This is what I have everything set to. The sub plays the LFE channel as well as all the other channels -10db. the center and front/rear left/right are all crossed over at 80hz via a high pass filter (the sub has a low pass filter at 80hz).

    L-Shaped Room Design

You're right haha. I think this will work. Its a bit scattered, but should be detailed enough. The interior walls are in red.

    L-Shaped Room Design

Sorry for not including this originally, but first off there is a door in the bottom part of the L (open space) towards the right side, and a small block window right in the center of the long wall. I am hesitant to put the speakers in the right part of the room for two reasons. Both are caused...

    JBL V.S. B&W Center

Don't have either, was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them. I understand that it is hard to know for sure how it would sound in my particular room, just wanted to hear opinions of each.

    First Home Theater Advice Needed

The recommended angle does indeed range from 90-110. With 7.1 systems, the last two speakers are meant for listening in the rear. With 5.1, the last two speakers are intended to be directed more from the side. When in doubt, play around with it. See what sounds best to you in this range. As for...

    JBL V.S. B&W Center

Trying to pick out a decent center that will provide, preferably, a warm sound. I found the JBL Studio Series 3-Way S-Center for the same price as the B&W CC3. From what I am reading, the B&W would probably fit the timbre of my front left and right (warm vintage speakers), but it seems like the...

    Windows Full Ranged Speaker

So I have a very unique temporary setup for my home theater. I currently run all my movies off of my computer (which performs all of the receiver's tasks). Before anyone tells me to go and buy an actual receiver, just let me say that that is my long-term plan, but for now my PC will have to...

    L-Shaped Room Acoustic Solution

I recognize this, and will be hanging the walls on isolation clips as well as doubling the drywall. My main concern in my question is not how best to soundproof, but rather if there is a good way to temporarily close the room into a rectangle instead of the current L-shape.
