Denon AVR-3805 won't send digital audio to two rooms -- alternatives?

Ted, You’re on the right track (second receiver vs. Zone 2). Let me try to sum it up for you. The DACs in the Denon are better than the DACs in the Mac Mini. This is why the optical connection sounds better than the RCA connection. Even if your mini was able to output digital and analog at...

Rotel RB-1080 power amp keeps blowing fuses, I have B&W Matrix 802 Series 3 Speakers

Find out what Rotel did to fix your amp. The 1080, left channel fuse blowing with the 12v trigger is a famous thread over at Club Rotel. Do a search over there, and you will find a wealth of information. Basically you need the 6.3A fuses changed for 8 Amp fuses and a resistor/capacitor upgrade...

Why does wireless networking hate me?

Vince, As you stated, you have no problems seeing (and connecting to) your neighborhood unsecured networks but have troubles with dropouts on your secure network. Are there any bells and whistle starting to go off? I have had horrible times with dropouts with my Linksys router and WEP...

    20-39PC+ Setup

You are correct, crossovers aren’t brick walls. Roll off is often revered to as Slope, expressed in terms such as “12dB/Octave” What I should have said is “You will have significant frequency loss between 60-100 Hz” Your mains are rated for 35 Hz (-3dB). Ideally you would set you...

    20-39PC+ Setup

If you set the crossover on the Pioneer to 100 and set the crossover on the SVS to 60, you will loose all the frequencies between 60-100 Hz. I would try setting all speakers to small, set the Pioneer crossover to 100 Hz and disable the crossover on the SVS.

Optical output problem on Sony LCD TV??

The optical out on the TV will only output on a digital signal. The dim light from the cable is normal; as soon as you tune to a digital source the light will turn bright red. So basically the optical connection only works with the QAM tuner (digital cable) or the ATSC tuner (DTV/HDTV) built...

Help! No picture with new digital cable setup.

I don't believe your projector will do 480i on the vga connector. On Motorola boxes there is a component setup menu. First hook up the box so you can see a picture. Then with the power off on the STB press the menu button on the STB. Next set 4:3 override to 480p.

    What exactly does WEGA mean??

John, I totally agree with you, it has absolutely nothing to do with the technology. The FD Trinitron CRT tube is Sony’s technology. Wega is just a name. I was just trying to show a correlation between Sony and Wega. And how it’s possible for a Japanese company to give there TVs a German name.

    What exactly does WEGA mean??

WEGA is definitely German. EDIT trademark only not technology In 1969 Hartmut Esslinger was asked to design a new TV for a German company named Wega. The Wega’s were a huge success and a new trend-setter. Later Sony bought the company Wega. Esslinger’s company also did the product design...

I got an email from the president of Nuance!

I would reply back. Tell him after you repair his spelling and grammar, for a substantial fee you will agree to repair the speakers and marketing. To start off with, nuance needs to be capitalized. And if you capitalize all the letters in ceo it will look more impressive on his business card.

    Infinity Beta Series

I have been running the Alphas for about 2 years, 50’s front, 40’s rear and 37c center. The Alphas are the only thing left in my system that I haven’t upgraded. I have read many reviews in which the reviewers say the 37c is the best center they ever heard. If I were buying Infinity speakers...

How loud do you go? Decibel Question

Derek, I'll try to help you in your confusion. Your system is probably calibrated just fine. The problem is your assuming 0dB on your Denon is ref level. I would have to guess reference level on your system is +10. So watching your dvd at -9dB(on your system) = 86dB(peaks) = -19dB Ref level.

    digital channels thru analog cable?

You can setup parental controls to block it or most tuners have a option to skip channels or hide channels.

How loud do you go? Decibel Question

If you calibrated with Avia and 75dB test tones. What your calling reference level is actually 10dB lower than actual Dolby reference level(peaks 105dB)
