I use VirtualBox and its actually pretty good for freeware. FYI you can boot from a USB or Firewire drive with intel based Mac's (older PowerPC's needed firewire).
I don't think the new monitor is over priced as the cinema displays were never really intended for consumers but pro's willing to pay for the top tier panels. I'd actually consider one if they (or someone) releases a DVI to DisplayPort adapter so I can use it with my existing MBP.

My beef in the PC/Mac arguments is that from my experience the PC users are arguing from a point of ignorance in that they've never used OSX nor kept current with what it has to offer etc. Its far from perfect but using both daily I greatly prefer OS X.
