After watching it last night, I agree.
As far as the realistic portrayal of boot camp: The character Pyle would have been sent to the 'Fat Farm' fairly quickly in real life. Or simply 'washed out'. Also, a number went AWOL and ended up in the brig.
Only about 1/3 of the originial members...
Saw this in the theater when it was first released. I remember being blown away by the first part because it was the best depiction of boot camp I'd seen on film. Leastways, it closely matched my experience at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego back in the early 70's. But I was...
That's interesting.
Streamed this movie a couple of days ago. Like others I was at first disappointed by the change, but after reflecting on it I don't think it negatively impacts the main message of the film that was revealed in Emily's reliving of her birthday.
Hopefully this will get a...
Great thread!
There are a number of films I watch at least once a year but these three are at the top of that list:
The Best Years of Our Lives. Best war film ever made IMHO.
Chinatown. The story, cinematography, acting, and soundtrack are all perfect.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance...
Couldn't agree more. Really impressed with Blue when I watched it last night. Quite beautiful. Am looking forward to White and Red.

Thanks for the interesting post. Have probably watched this film more than any other. When it was released I spent a whole day at the theater watching every showing of it for that day and numerous times since then.
I do have a different interpretation of the film. Considering the radical...
Guess we just have different ways of using google.
The first link to "audio tearing" on my search stated:
"Fix Audio Static Crackling Popping with Realtek Sound Card. If you have a Windows 7 machine with a Realtek sound chipset or drivers, then you may have run into a problem where you...
Well I didn't know the meaning of the term, but it took me less than a minute to find out by googling. Less than the time it would have taken to post a response complaining about your use of the term.
I think the film does a good job of showing what kind of person he was. Given that he had a very normal family history with no traumatic events early in life I'm not sure the question of why is of much interest here or even possible to answer.
Been reading the book the film is based on...
It is all over the film. Ironically, I think the people complaining most about the missing flag planting scene would really appreciate the depiction of the space race in this film. They are missing out if they don't give the film a chance by boycotting it.
Just back from IMAX showing. Perhaps my expectations were slightly diminished by reading some of the earlier criticisms - it was much better than I had expected. Found it very moving and interesting throughout. I thought it did a very good job of showing Armstrong's family issues and the...
Am a big fan of this movie. So already preordered it.
Finally got around to reading the book it is based on. Was surprised to learn that the movie (even with its tacked on 'happy ending') is much darker than the original story.
