Yeah, I think it might be an interesting lawsuit. Can a manufacturer disable a useful feature which was part of their product when it was delivered to the person who paid for the product. As a person buying a product you enter into an implied contract which says, "In exchange for money, you are...
Hmmm... I have an Emotiva XPA-3 Gen 1. I have a spare channel on my Sherbourn 5/1500a, I have an old Adcom GFA 555 II....
I'll have to think about this some. I kinda like the symmetry of all the "floor" speakers powered by Emotivas... If I decide to let the XPA-3 go, I'll let you know.
Things in my systems just get demoted. When I acquire the new Blu-Ray player for my living room system the BDP s370 will move to the family room, the Toshiba in the family room goes to my home "office." and so it goes.
Actually I have found price matters to a point, then the law of diminishing returns kicks in. I have an AV7704 with about 3kw of amplification and some decent speakers. I chose a Sony 75" 900f, as my wife said we needed 75" and I couldn't justify a 77" Oled.
I am waiting for the UBP-M800M2...
Yeah, I built a cradle for my center channel raising it up ~9 inches and moved the AV7704 to the top under the center channel, and put the Sherbourne down in the cabinet.
I put in my ceiling speakers, I have 11 channels of amplification (minimum of 200 watts per). I have a Marantz AV7704 and I want to hear what everything will do.
Sources attached to the system include;
Sony XBR75X900F
Xfinity X1 DVR.
Sony BDP-S370
An older HP desktop with HDMI out running...
Well I bit the bullet and cut holes in the ceiling. Running the wire was fun, but my handy wife helped and we "got 'er done."
At present I am using the 4 channels of the Sherbourne for the ceiling speakers with one channel not powering anything.
John R is correct in the way everything is laid...
BTW, I found a DTS Blu-Ray in my collection (Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer) and watched it in DTS-X mode and it sounded "fuller" for want of a better term.
Okee Dokee then. I enjoy movies when played through the screen and earbuds on an airplane. So why do I have a 75" 4k TV, 4,000+ watts of amplification and 12 speakers in my living room?
Partly because I like to tinker. Partly because I like decent sound. But the one thing I always try to do is...
Perhaps my language isn't precise. What I am referring to as upmixing is when a source contains a limited number of channels and additional channels are synthesized. If a codec is used to extract the various channels, say 5.1, to their discrete bit streams (or analog channels) it would then be...
Actually in reading various blogs, some people claim that DTS-X provides a more engaging height experience from non height enabled content than either Atmos upmixing or Auro upmixing. So I wanted to see for myself what the difference in upmixing 5.1 content to 7.1.4 was.
One way to test how...
I have a Marantz AV7704, which is up to date firmware wise. I was testing the upmixing capabilities of my new 4 height channels. For source material I was using Xfinity and Avengers Ultron, and then Deadpool 2. Both I believe are Dolby 5.1, at least off of Xfinity.
My test was to find action...
