I think Warner has done fairly well in their Blu efforts. Sure, it is annoying to have to select the HD track every time, but it's a trade off I'll take over instant menus, trailers, ads, etc. Too bad we can't program our players to just output the lossless track no matter what, like in the...
It's sometimes funny to look at Blu Ray and see how if they only looked at grandpa LaserDisc, they could make us so happy. For instance: -You put a disc in, it starts, with sound trailers often too. -Resume play. -Uncompressed audio on just about everything except ancient titles. -No...
This was quite an interesting list. I almost felt like they were going for "great" films rather than "significant" films. This would explain the exclusions of Jazz Singer, etc. It almost feels like Kane is one by default just because it's Kane. I love the film, see why it is so great, and for...
Today was Star Wars day at my Family Video store. I started out by running the commentary track on Star Wars, segued into Empire of Dreams, and then finally, not A New Hope, but STAR WARS! Happy Birthday Star Wars. You changed...everything.
"Get in there you big furry oaf. I don't care...
Thing is, I'm pretty sure my set shows 720p at 720p. It's not converting as far as I know. That, or it's native is 540p or something weird. Model is the KV34XBR970. AJG
Regarding the 720p output: I have a Sony XBR CRT that does a max of 1080i. Would I be better off putting it into 720p as well? I have noticed stations that broadcast in 720p do tend to look better on my display. I'm downloading as I type. Excited!! AJG
My system is modest, but calibrated nicely for all inputs. It's a night and day difference between the two formats. The BR sounds good, and is very clear. It felt obvious the BR was compressed less, however the low end impact just wasn't there. This is a Rydstrom mix and it didn't FEEL like it...
Yes, I know, kinda hard to compare these two formats, but I think the sound mix needs to be discussed. Sure, the picture on the Blu Ray blows the LaserDisc away, but the sound is "tame" by comparison. Just like the DVD before it, I'm dissapointed here. Anyone else still spinning those big discs...
A little confused on the aspect ratio. According to the box, it's presented properly at 1.33:1. However, before the film starts, the pan and scan disclaimer comes on. I also checked out the film specifications at Film-Tech, and the theatrical ratio was 1.66:1 inside the 1.85:1 frame. Now I know...
True Lies is screaming for a release on Blu Ray. Never bothered with the DVD. After all, my LaserDisc holds up well to the non anamorphic transfer that the lame DVD received. And oh, that AC-3 track still shakes the house. AJG
So I'm planning a party for Pirates of the Caribbean on Blu Ray, and was wondering if I pre order it them both from Amazon, when they would arrive. The party is planned for May 22, but I'm curious to know if Amazon ships the discs as soon as they get them or if they ship on the street date. I...
Anyone know if it'd even be possible for the PS3 to utilize the mutli out for a possible 6 channel analog out for DTS-MA and PCM 5.1? I don't have an HDMI receiver and really did not plan on upgrading soon, so this would be a wonderful option for high definition audio. I figure it would not be...
