Onkyo and Pioneer have released firmware updates that will add Apple AirPlay 2 capabilities to certain AV products, as originally announced on January 8th. The Onkyo update covers the line-up from the high-end PR-RZ5100 AVR, released in 2016, to the TX-NR686 model, released in 2018.
The selected Onkyo range with the available update looks like this: AV receivers – PR-RZ5100, TX-RZ3100, TX-RZ1100, TX-RZ830, TX-RZ730, TX-NR686 and TX-L50; home theatre system – LS5200; network stereo receivers – TX-L20D, TX-8270. The Pioneer range covers the SX-S30 stereo receiver and the following AV receivers: SC-LX901, SC-LX801, SC-LX701, VSX-LX503, VSX-LX303, VSX-LX103, VSX-933, and VSX-S520.
Apple AirPlay 2 allows streaming of music or podcasts from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, to speakers throughout a home while keeping everything in sync. Users can voice-control compatible products with Siri directly from an iPhone, iPad, HomePod, or Apple TV.
