A few words about…™ We’re No Angels – in Blu-ray

We're No Angels Blu Ray Review

I always found this to be an oddity, but it works. I always seem to place this and Beat the Devil
in the same basket.

Costume design reminds me of The Importance of Being Ernest.

It’s VistaVision, with an odd Vista logo – huge horizontal scratches beneath the lettering.

The body of the film seems a bit on the grainy side, and without being fully stable. Nothing terrible here.

Audio is fine.

Overall, a pleasant looking interpretation of the film, from a nominal seating distance.

While it can look much better, this is good enough for government work. Even at the asking price.

And yes, at least from Amazon, it’s a burned disc.

And not to be confused with I’m No Angel, which is similar, but in black & white. One thing that I really don’t like about the Amazon releases are the Scanavo cases. While they do seem a bit more solid, they’re also a few millimeters thicker (more lost shelf space), heavier and a waste of plastic.

Image – 3.75

Audio – 5

Pass / Fail – Pass

Upgrade from DVD – Yes

I'm going to stick with my iTunes HD digital that I recently watched it some weeks ago and was pleased with the video presentation.

Definitely something I'll add to my collection but it seems on backorder everywhere I check (Amazon, Deep Discount, Movies Unlimited, Best Buy etc.)! An idiosyncrasy of mine but I'll never order something unless it's in stock.

The disc is okay. No major problems.
Geez, if you don't give a disc a rating of 4.0 or above, some people tend to think a disc isn't worth a purchase. Anyhow, I'm not going to tell other people how to spend their monies so I'll stop here. For me personally, if I didn't already own the HD digital, I would've bought this disc. Hell, I might have bought it despite owning the HD digital, if there was some bonus material on the disc.

Yeah I got the HD digital for $5 over the summer and watched it then, so it’s not a high priority disc upgrade for me. In general I collect Bogart, Stewart and Grant so I might change my mind one day.

In my case, not every film receiving a score of 4.0 or less were shunned from my purchasing past.

Still, by the mid-year point of 2020 and our times of economic unknowns, the time had come to tighten my belt. Currently, I have less wiggle room for BD curios and experimentations and have relegated myself to the socko-only transfers and discs.

One day, I’ll be able to indulge those discs of 4.0 or less; but first I must ride things out.

“We’re No Angels” will be a one-day purchase.:thumbs-up-smiley:

I don't keep up with releases much these days, but something I will definitely add to the collection. First saw this on television many many years ago and I've been a fan ever since. Not a great film, but certainly a pleasant one.

I own a copy of the DVD which, from what I recall, looks good enough for the frequency at which I tend to watch this one (not that often - usually around Christmas though it's not much of a "Christmas" movie). I may upgrade at some point after re-evaluating the DVD.

Double-edged sword for me: was pleased there were no 'major' issues here, was deflated that a little more time and care had not gone into eradicating all the age-related stuff, and given this a 4K scan upgrade to ensure authentic VistaVision like presentation. It's an okay movie with a so-so transfer. It can pass - but just. And frankly, on an MOD Blu, in 2020, well past the infancy of hi-def technology and digital restoration techniques, that's just not good enough for me anymore. Spoiled by quality stuff, I guess. But it makes the matter of skin-flint quickie dumps like this one all the more the standouts...and not in a good way.

I enjoy this film...let me say that. The reason I'm holding onto my DVD is that the picture quality is fairly good, and if this BD is not a major upgrade, why double dip. I did that with the recent Paramount release of "The Sons Of Katie Elder", and was quite disappointed by the transfer quality (or lack of). Don't really want to make that same mistake again, especially for a film I'll watch perhaps once a year around Christmas

"We're No Angels" may not be a great film, but it's an old favorite. I watch it most Christmas Seasons. But I will stick with the DVD, which doesn't look too bad, until the price drops.
