"AFI's 100 Years...100 Heroes & Villains".
Instead of doing genres, this time, it's the 2 character types that make up most every movie ever released.
More information is in the press release section of http://www.afi.com/
Sincerely,
John Kilduff...
This is going to be an odd one.

Thanks Thi. These lists might not mean much, but it's sort of cool to see clips we love here and there.

My guesses are Judah Ben-Hur and Darth Vader.

The list of nominations:
in PDF
in MSWord
Glancing through quickly, I a couple of things come to mind:
* Why is Darth Vader (#368) listed for Empire, with Star Wars merits only a 'Also appears in'?
* Why give 'Also appears in' credit where the same character appears in re-makes or unrelated films - is the "Frollo" from the 1939 Hunchback the same as in the Disney films? Is Vince Vaughn's Norman Bates the same as Anthony Perkins? Is the 1931 Universal "Henry Frankenstein" the same as Branagh's "Victor Frankenstein"? Is Michael Keaton's Batman the same as Adam West's?
* Glad to see Marge Gunderson in the list. Hope she makes it into the Top 100.

As much as I inevitably end up hating these lists...I always watch the damn shows. :D
I recently bought the first issue of the new "Maxim at the Movies" magazine (definitely worth the 5 bucks IMO) and it had a very entertaining list:

No Frank ( Henry Fonda ) from Once Upon A Time In The West or Rev. Harry Powell ( Robert Mitchum ) from Night of the Hunter? Kinda knocks the list down, IMHO, but regardless thanks Scott for going to the effort of posting. I am impressed that Tommy Udo made the list on the other hand.
All joking aside it is a decent list, but whomever put that list together must have some "issues" if the practically anonymous hillbillies of Deliverance make the #1 spot. :)

No prob, W. I live to talk movies.

I had a few problems with this list as well (Michael Meyers anyone???) but it was great that they included the truly scary version of Max Cady...and their #3 is an impressive call!

I really hope Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" makes it on to the AFI list. All other screen villains can ultimately be defeated, with a bullet, a stake through the heart, an exorcism, etc. All except ... THE BIRDS!

Does anyone else wonder if AFI will try to pull a Sound and Spirit and update the original list in 2006? :D

Ouch, I had forgotten about this. It's already 9PM, I will wait for the USA network broadcast on the 23...

BTW, isn't there a high potential of spoiler on this show?
