So, I know that the AVR8000 is Harman Kardons big daddy, but I was wondering if anyone knew if they had something else coming out soon?

The AVR 7200 at MSRP $1600.00 is their new offering with a plethora of bells and whistles, but H/K says they intend to continue producing the 8000 as their Flagship.

their newest line is just now appearing at retailers. i'm personally waiting for the AVR525, which should be in stock at e-tailers in the next week or so. J&R quoted me at $748 shipped if i wanted to preorder it, which i will most likely do.

My local dealer already has the 325 and 525. I purchased the 525 on Friday. The 7200 MSRP is $1499 if you want more power and DTS 96/24. For me the 525 puts out plenty of power and fills the room very well. H/K will continue to build the 8000 as their flagship model for now. One thing I wonder about is that the 7200 doesn't have a cooling fan. I thought that was wierd since they designed a new cooling system for the 325 and 525. Any of these models will sound great and look great too. :)

Does the 7200 have the ability to overlay Logic7 on 5.1 sources like the avr8000? I know that's probably much of the reason AVR8000 owners praise their machines.

Hey thanks guys for the info... Now starts the whining and crying until I upgrade. hehe...

Actually, the only reason I would want to upgrade from my AVR520, is for the Dolby Digital-EX.

since the 525 will have pre-outs and main-in's, does this mean i could add an ICBM between the two to be used as a universal bass manager?

Thomas,
FYI: The 525 does not have main-in jacks. :frowning: I will be waiting to see if the 7200 has this feature...

Antoine,

The 525's main competition should be the Denon 3803, Marantz 7300, Onkyo TX-SR800, and whatever Yamaha and Pioneer Elite (45TX street price) models are in the $1k price range.

why would they include it in the '520 and leave it out on the '525? that was a key feature that i liked on the '520...i cant believe they took that out!

The 525 won't apply Logic 7 to dd/dts. :frowning: Sucks. The 7200 won't either according to Harman Kardon. They are going to leave that feature to the flagship model.
I watched BladeII yesterday in DTS ES and it rocked. I don't think that anyone will be disappointed in the 525. Oh, it does have a variable speed cooling fan with electronic temperature sensing.

Brian, someone recently posted a picture of the 7200 with the display showing logic7 overlaying dd....I'm pretty sure its in a recent thread here at htf. Scott

Gregory - I'm going by what I was told. If it does apply it then that's great and it would seem that it's a better buy over the 8000. The only thing the 8000 would have is THX. To me that wouldn't warrant the price difference. Is there any word yet on a release date for the 7200? It was originally supposed to be released this Fall. The 325 and 525 are out and I haven't seen any mention of a possible date for the 7200.
