Are these actual zombies (reanimated dead) or just living people infected with a rabies-type virus?People infected by a virus. I remember reading somewhere that its a psychological virus. This isn't true. The virus in the film essentially makes sufferers into animals. They run flat out, have violent muscle spasms, projectile-vomit blood, have discoloured skin, red eyes, and seem indifferent to serious injuries (so long as they can still move). Basically they behave like super-energetic zombies, without truly being zombies, in the strict sense of the word.
Incidentally, I've seen Return of the Living Dead, but I was much more freaked out by the running in 28 Days Later.... Not only do the 'infected peolpe' run after you, but they run like Olympic sprinters. They run flat out, and don't stop until their victims are down. Very freaky stuff.
Although am I the only one who didn't like the fact that it was shot on video? There was a definite lack of resolution compared to 35mm film. And those "Saving Private Ryan" effects shots get more annoying every time I see them (and I didn't even like them the first time).
